Oil Life says 5% even after I added oil...
I put in over a quart of oil (1 bottle+) and the oil life still says 5%
I need to stretch out the time, just a little, before going in for a complete oil change so figured adding some oil would bring it back to 10 or 15% at least... what the hell....
I need to buy myself some time cuz I JUST bought an extended bumper to bumper warranty online from bernardiwarranty.com (48k 48mo) for 1100 and said I had 49500 miles, when I really have 52700....

hmm i have a feeling the sensor is ok, i guess the car needs Acura to reset some crap... stupid. Well, it says 5% and I don't wanna drive it much more to see what happens. Prob garage it for a couple wks or so until I think it's enough time to pass before bringing it to Acura for an oil change.
Note: Should have just bought warranty before so I could continue to drive my RL, oh well, was startin to rack up miles because of how awesome the ride is anyway..

get the filter and washer from your local dealer or from an internet dealer and have a local shop do it, or do it your self. Then reset in accordance with instructions in the manual. Does it tell you have an A1 service or something due?

Resetting the oil life is easy. After you have changed oil, go back on the trip computer to oil life screen. When you get there hold the SEL RESET button until you get a confirmation asking "do you want to reset". Go to the RESET option and press the SEL RESET button again. This should do it.

If the car is telling you it's time to change the oil, why wouldn't you? Adding a quart does not get rid of the old oil or clean the filter. An oil change is pretty cheap insurance.
Were you a quart low? I've never had to add any oil to my RL.

no, i just bought an extended warranty online (a little late but shhh) and don't wanna head down for an oil change a couple days later with 3,000 miles more on the car... need to buy myself at least a couple wks so it can look like i just went on a road trip or somethin... a real long road trip.

^ hmm yea i thought so.. yeesh, good thing I only used 1 bottle.... Still have haunting memories of constantly putting oil in my 95 Galant... S! that is though.....
Anyway thanks for the responses.. think I got it figured out. I will prob approach 8,000 miles in between oil changes, anyone done this before, I know 7500 is typically the norm so a few hundred more should be fine.

Based on this comment, I would check to see that you have not added TOO MUCH oil. My car burns very little oil, and adding a quart may have overfilled the engine.

I agree with chas2, you need to find your dip stick and check your oil lever ASAP. Overfilling your oil can be just as damaging as not having enough. Have you never had a car before? Or just never checked your oil before?

Just never really checked oil before...
After looking into what can happen by adding more oil than required I checked the oil and discovered it is just a tad bit passed the limit line... will drain a little or just get to Acura before driving much longer..

All this fuss and effort when you could have just done the oil change already

this thread is too funny. lol
i have to agree with some of the guys here. you should have just gotten an oil change. and then to top it off you didn't check the dip stick to see if you needed oil. you could have easily messed up your car. not cool!
but in the end i hope your car is ok...

Based on what I've read here, what he really needs to do is leave anything related to maintenance of this vehicle alone.
To the OP - No offense intended but you don't even seem to have the principal understanding of "how things work". I say this by your belief that the mid is telling you what the quantity of your oil is when in fact it's a analysis of the quality.

Oh well, listen learned, right? Either get someone who knows what they're doing to teach you how to do it, or take it to a shop and have a professional do it.

jock, get thee over to Walmart or Sam's Club and pay for an oil change. The $20-30 resolves all your issues and if you were to choose to go to Acura for another oil change "too soon" there's no harm in that, either.
Balance this against the dirty oil we know you've got (since the omniscient computer say it's old) and the dirty filter.

This person took their car to Mobil, and then didn't heed the car's warnings when something was wrong.

i agree walmart hmmm...no
i am still paying for my car and if something goes wrong i want to be able to go back and be able to sue your ass. lol walmart hmm no! headache if stuff goes wrong...
i work for insurance: and i had a client who took there car to get an oil change. but since this place is overwhelmed with business. that they started the oil change. when the client came in to pick the car. she took it. a few hours later on her way home noticed her car to stall and smoke. called a tow truck. they checked it and they told her the car had two noticeable mistake...
1) no oil filter...
2) no oil period.
3) oil cap not on.
in the end the car was shot. no good any more. she went back to make them pay for a new engine. they said no. they said no. they said it was her fault. she should have checked the car before driving off.
you c this shit can happen at walmart. screw that. i still have payments to do on my car. i rather track my changes and if shit hits the fan. i can make acura dealer fix it they are liable. or i will sue there asses. lol

its funny how a lot of us are telling our friend that he needs to go in and get an oil change. not what he did is funny. that is not funny b/c if it was messed up then he would be upset.
its funny how we all are telling him to get an oil change before he regrets it later. thats all.

you have to reset your OIL. I had the same problem when I changed oil for the first time. You computer works by calculating the miles and time. There is a reset button on the wheel push and hold it for few seconds. try to read the book.
