New RL and already door handle problem
I bought this thing a week ago.
I usually go up to the car and it unlocks.
Today it didn't.
Took the key out of the fob unlocked the door and then put the key in the
ignition and turned.
The alarm went off...
What kind of a f-ing moron of an engineer do you have to be to not think of overriding an alarm when a key is in there?
And what kind of car has issues with door handles??? I wash the thing so solenoids go bad and short the fuse gtfo... Last Japanese car I buy.
Back to Porsche...
/rant
How the hell do I fix this without spending $500 per handle?
Can I pull fuse #7 and call it a day?
Thanks for the input!!

Well if your coming from a "Porsche" this $500 shouldn't be nothing to a baller like you. But i get it, with the economy these days i guess you have to go backwards sometimes. Oh yeah, maybe try using the search engine.

As for the handles though, yes, that is a known weak part that always seems to fail. The only solutions are to stock up on handles... or don't drive it in the rain and don't wash it! LOL

You can..
SELL THE RL... no used car or new is perfect. we on this site LOVE our RLs and understand that small defects are to be expected. Yes, some Rls if you put water on the handles it may not work until dried out. just use the remote to unlock and lock until they dry out or go back to the acura dealer and have them replaced under warranty. but do not expect a perfect vehicle... not going to happen! no matter what you pay for it.... its a machine

you bought this thing a week ago, but it sounds like it is a new to you car, more details would help as mentioned above.
or you can get a GL63 AMG on sale for $7, except in Canada.

Wait a second. I just reread the title. You bought a brand new 2012 RL and the handle broke a week later?! Why come here instead of filing a warranty claim?

The offer has expired.
037, did it really say it wasn't available to Canada? That would be strange since it is the MB Canada site.

on the bright side, the online community sent so much traffic to the site they had to remove GL63 from their website altogether!
They can make cars but can't update a price on their website...sad

Sorry for the confusion folks.
It's a 2005 RL. Great shape.
Here is a little story for you...
It was -10 here in MN yesterday. I found that if I sit in the car while the alarm goes off with the car running, the alarm will eventually stop. At that point the car still thinks its locked (red light on the dash too) but will let you drive it!! The radio does not work, the trunk or gas cap button wont work. Thank god the heat etc does work.
So yesterday I decided to drive the car to the shop. I sat in the car with the alram going and after it stopped drove to the gas station. I pulled up and thought I could leave the car running so the alarm wouldnt go off, I was wrong. When I opened my door the alarm went off so I killed the car.
Pressed the gas cap button, no dice.
Called acura to see how the hell to open it manually.
I had to get to the trunk, my rear doors were locked.
Unlocked the rear doors (manually) got to the back seat.
Stuck my hand through to the trunk and started tryiong to find the trunk release.
5-10 minutes later (in -10 weather mind you) I found it and popped the trunk.
Then I had to stand outside and pop the trim piece then pull the lever to pop the cap.
By this time my hands (in my gloves) were partially numb.
Filled the $hitbox with gas started it up (with the alarm going) and many people staring and pulled off to the far end of the gas station to wait for it to shut up.
A mechanic came up to the car to try to help but I had to wave him away because I didnt want the alarm to keep going.
So far when the alarm went off the lights wouldn't flash, this time (since I was in a publicly humiliating position) they were blinking like there was no tomorrow.
The car is now at the shop awaiting diag. I am pissed that a key doesnt just override all my problems, like a logical engineer would have thought out.
Oh and I got a speeding ticket 3 days after I got this thing. I hadn't had one for 5 yrs now..
Probably the most unluckiest car I have ever had. I have had many Audis and own a couple Porsches and Honda minivan but I cant believe the Acura is the one with the electrical issues.
Thanks for listening...

I suppose you did your homework before buying that "shitbox" and learned that 2005s have the most issues with electrical components and the handles are one of the weakest links; right?
Just be glad it is -10 degrees because your "shitbox" A/C is probably broken too.

that does not sound like a fun experience, I hope you have a good mechanic or an easy way to get rid of this car.
speeding...well...you can't blame the car for that one.

replace the battery with a brand new one and see if that helps.

Passenger side door handle was replaced and the car is doing fine so far.
I have been noticing some RPMs bouncing when I am in high gear.
Around 40-45 mph the RPMs will bounce up and down like its having a problem
choosing higher or lower gear.
According to the dealer all the recalls have been addressed.
Any ideas there guys?
Thanks!

45 is the crossover for 5th gear. If you are on a slight incline or are going between speeds, the car is just trying to find the best gear. Another thing is the torque converter locking/unlocking in 5th. That will cause drastic rpm fluctuations under similar circumstances noted above.
In any case, the car does learn driving styles. It's likely the person before you drove very differently, and the car hasn't learned where you like to shift. There are threads here about "ECU relearn" procedures that can help to reset these shift points.
