My car took a swim...please help
Hi everybody I have a 2007 RL-Tech with 94,000 miles.
The water came up to just below the radio. I've replaced the ecu (from a donor car) and both fuse blocks inside.
I've gotten the car to crack but it won't start. I'm thinking the imoes unit might be shot.
Is the ecu vehicle specific (require reprogramming) or is that the job of the imoes unit.
Also what other computers/important electronics are below the level of the radio? Thanks

I would think that the ecu would be specific for each vehicle.
I had a 2003 Evo 8 prior to the RL and from what I remember I cannot swap ECU's. Its got to be programmed with the "anti-theft" system for it to fire up.

^This. Cut your losses, and don't waste any more money. The metal is worth more than trying to rebuild.

We're only here to help...
Have you checked the service manual here? Did you say you were able to turn the key? Does a green light on the dash that looks like a key illuminate? If so, then your imobilizer unit is fine I would think. I don't think it will let you turn the key if it has malfunctioned.

imbobilizer has to be reprogrammed with the car. car ECU and keys need to be at the dealership. but trust me you do not want a flood car electrical gremlins will be in your future and will be very expensive with the car.

The entire interior harness was gone through and dialectic freeze liberally applied. Some connectors were replaced. I'm just working my was through. So far it seems the ads unit radio imoes and lf antenna were affected.

are there any codes?
Honestly it could be anything, even if you checked all the plugs it only takes one bad ground or loose connection.
If I were you I'd start from zero, check for fuel pressure at the rail and spark at the plug.
If you have both, you will likely need a dealer computer to check the immobilizer and re-synch the system with the new ECU.
Just start making a list of things you've checked off.

you'll need to bring it (towing) to a dealership for them to program your new ECU (bring your old ECU and the VIN number of the donor car). Depending on how much labor you are willing to pay, they'll either try an ECU replacement or simple programming with the donor's VIN.

Just had my Immobilzer replaced. the car had the exact same symptoms as the ones you describe. Get a new immoblizer and reprogram all the key and keyfobs and you should be good to go!
