Metric Display on '05?

Seriously considering an 05 RL, imported from the US up here to Canada. Test drove one a few months ago which sold before I could really make up my mind (and I did hear the "propeller shaft whine" on the test drive which I just learned about on here LOL).

Anyway, one item associated with legally importing a US-spec car to Canada is the dash display. I know the speedo shows both metric (kms) and US units (mph), but does the odometer toggle between US and metric on the US-spec cars? Also, what about the factory nav? Is there a way to change the units on it to kms?

Thanks!

I think the answer is yes and yes, no time to look,

check out the manuals, MID for Odo, and Nav manual for nav. I am almost certain the answer is yes and yes.

Hmm thanks for the links - but in the '05 RL manual it just describes how the Canadian version of the car is different with metric units in the various multifunction display menus, etc - it doesn't seem to indicate you can switch between US and metric units for the odometer or trip meter (or outside temp for that matter)....

Metric is so outdated, anyway.

Hey, our '06 doesn't have kph in the speedo, just miles. Clean lookin'.

I don't think there is a way for the owner to switch the MID readings from metric to US units. I looked through the hidden Map-Menu-Cancel diagnostic menu and there's nothing in there either.

You can switch the navigation system to metric in the navi setup, but I don't think that gets applied to the MID readout.

Well good news - I found out from the RIV agents who clear the cars for import here that if the odometer cannot display metric, they just put a sticker on the dash declaring the display is in miles. That way you can't misrepresent the true mileage when the car is resold, etc

However, I was leaning towards an '06 after reading about the various TSB's, etc with the '05 models - but it seems the speedo on the '06 models does not display km/h? That one is not "workable" - there has to be a metric speed display, whether it's on the dial or by digital readout (like the Boxsters for example which have mph only on the dial but also have a digital speed readout that can be switched to km/h)

Canadian models and US models have different MID logic.

You cannot toggle to metric on US models and vice versa. Other than language selection options, the MIDs are specific to the destination market, along with the cooled seats (<2009 models), XM, NAVI logic, etc.

However, my 2006 RL does reflect km on the speedo, on the inner dial.

Perfect, so long as kms are also indicated on the speedo dial on an '06, I'm gold for importing the car legally.
