I haven't taken a look at yet as I'm at work now. Probably this weekend sometime.
Velcro is a good idea, Just remove all the plastic clips with velcro.... if you want to glue the white plastic base the one that runs underneath the rear windshield, use super glue (make sure it's dry before you put it on).... it works wonders.... Elmer's glue is too weak and won't hold up.... but if you have to get to the back of the liners often, velcro is a very good idea

hmmm.... dynomat the trunk lid and velcro the liner.... hmmm.... should I do that next

do u mean the 2 inside the trunk? or the back up light? or the license plate light? they are all wedge based bulb, let it cool down and pull them out of the socket.... for the inside trunk ones, unplug the wires (clip on style), easier to work with

It's the one on the inner trunk lid. I can't get the cover off. I pop out one side and get too scared to pull on the other side.

There is an easier way to do this.

Open the trunk, pop off 4 clips from left to right.
One on left hand side of trunk , 2 on bottom of trunk and the other one on the right hand side of trunk seen in pictures above.

then just reach in and kinda fold back the trim and you can access the lights easily

I didnt remove any of the top trim by the trunk lock or the trunk light.

Basically they use the same miniature wedge base connector, so either will work.

More important is to watch the physical package size, the outer diameter about 12 mm diameter, also know as a T10. Also the height may be limited, about 28 mm or so, from bottom of connector to tip.

Here is a really bright, though expensive one.

And I can't take it out. I need to get myself one of those clip poppers...such a PITA.

Oh yea becareful when sticking your fingers under the lining to pry it out. That sucker is very sharp, slit my middle finger pretty easily.

If you don't have a clip tool, I found that this works pretty well...and I am serious. I actually used an Easton brand I got at home depot. Both sides work well, the straight or the j hook, depending on the angle you are after.

It has a lot of leverage in comparison to a real clip removal tool (finally got one of those on ebay), so use with gentle force.

I may attempt this little "mod" over then next couple weeks...

I'm going to be home "sick" for the next few weeks recoving from surgery...nothing life threatening...orthopedic stuff...

anyway, what LEDs woul you guys recommend for this mod? I'm afriad if I get ones that only iluminate in one direction, they won't light up enough, but I also don't want my license plate lights to be super bright and looks "too" bright...

anyone here have pics of theirs, or links to other threads where this was done?

thanks.

well first off dont try to take the cover off if its cold out! and the big pri bar is a no no . Tape the edge by the panel and use a plastic flat tool and gently wiggle and pull and they will pop one by one

old thread but still useful information, i was able to get the light about half way out from the outside but i was scared to break it so i switched to taking the liner off the trunk. this was a much easier way to go and i started by pulling the clips at just the bottom of the panel while the trunk was open and reached my hand up inside the liner and removed the bulb. no special tools and it took about all of 5 seconds. i may have approached it much different if it were not for this post.

thanks again for the information.

2005 Acura RL | 2nd Gen Acura RL License Plate Light Replacement

Posts #3 and 8 cover it. Thanks guys! It's a little awkward, so take your time and wiggle it - just a little bit - and shimmy it out. It will be a little stuck in there from time and road goo. I did it with my pocket knife.
Sylvania Long Life Mini Bulb 168LL works.

I have to do this soon as one of my bulbs is burned out, and did find a video on how to remove the liner. Seems simple...

Original part number bulb is 33301-5A0-741 per the video, though I think I'm going with the Sylvania 168 LL (long life) bulb and replace both while I'm in there.

Does anyone know of a back up camera that might fit in the light bulb socket area? My 2006 does not have backup, and thought it would be nice to put one in that space.

I haven't seen someone do it that way. Might be worth exploring.
