Latest info on 05 A/C

I have read all of the threads that I can find on the 05 A/C and have concluded this: The class action suit went nowhere. Acura do not officially acknowlege this as an issue. The compressor is rarely the issue it is normally the relay or the clutch coil. I know that the warranty repairs have the whole compressor/clutch assy exchanged but for those of you that have had this A/C issue, is there a cheaper solution than changing the whole compressor? I also remember that it was stated that Acura says that the compressor/clutch/coil is one assemby and cannot be rebuilt but I seem to remember that this forum exposed that it is possible to rebuild and repair only the faulty component - clutch coil or relay.
Any experiences on the solution, other than complete replacement, would be appreciated.

I replaced my clutch coil not long ago. A bit tight with the compressor still mounted and doable. A/C works great every time now.The toughest part are the c-clips as access to them is tough. Fortunately I have several clip pliers of various sizes and angles.

Thank you 470hpGS400 - I am surprised by the lack of responses to this question given the number of reported 05 A/C issues. May I assume that most people paid full price for the compressor replacement and that you embarrased them with your cheap and effective solution?

There was a field bulletin on the A/C coil about a year ago. Not sure which month it was, but if you check the Service News bulletins that are stickied at the top you'll be able to find it.

Not sure about that, could be, as dealers get paid more for replacing the entire compressor, freon, etc. With the right tools it is not a bad job, with the incorrect tools it can be a PITA as clearance is tough.

Had mine fixed in August 08 under warranty at the dealer. Only the compressor clutch field coil was replaced part number 38924-RJA-A01. The TSB is from September 07.

Anyone know how much it will cost to replace the clutch coil if your RL is out of warranty?

Part was around $85.00 shipped to me. Labor would be dependent on the shop quoting book time or a fixed rate. I would not think no more than 2 hours for a qualified shop.

Had this same problem. Ordered the clutch coil(stator set) for $92.00 from dealer. Had a friend help with the install and the ac works great. Dealer qouted me $900 to fix the problem. They wanted to replace the coil and the clutch. Thanks to all who posted here. Saved me some real $$.
