Kb2/2012 3.7 rl cai/sri

I could have sworn that I have seen the answer to this posted before, however if I did, I was certainly unable to find it this go round. Using the search feature etc. I have a 2012 KB2 with the 3.7, I am looking to get either an SRI or CAI to put on it, just for the sound. I've posted within the 2nd Gen RL FB Group and to no avail, wasnt able to get a (in stone) answer there. I've heard that the 07-08 TL Type S CAI/SRI will fit the KB2 (although that doesnt make sense as its a 3.5) and I have also heard that the 4th Gen TL with the 3.7 is the only SRI/CAI that fits the KB2. Anyone here have a KB2 with either the SRI or CAI installed? If so, which do you have/was install easy/do you have any check engine lights on as a result etc?

Any input is greatly appreciated, I love my car, but shes pretty basic and I am getting a little bored lol. Looking for some added growl or something to do to her cost effective that kind of gives me that new feel again.

If you're just looking for sound, then just remove the intake resonator..

Thanks for the advice man. I've found a few links mentioning that it gives a better/throatier sound. Any risks to this at all?

I don't know much about the RLX. Does it have the same sort of design that the TL has where the air intake draws from the top/front of the engine bay? Essentially a stock CAI? If so, the risk to removing the resonator is that you'd be drawing air from closer to the wheelwell or under the car. That's the way I have mine set up. The risk is that a deep puddle (it would have to be pretty deep. Like 2 feet or so), could result in water being sucked in. Whereas, if the stock intake was left alone, you'd practically have to flood the whole front end before it would pull in water.

I've found removing the resonator and a few other intake parts on the 4G TL reduced my intake air temp by about 10F.

I dont know anything about the RLX, mine is just the last year of the RL. From what I have read, it is the same as the TL, with the top and bottom draws. At this point, if just removing the resonators will give me the sound, Ill do just that. I just can find a DIY on it lol, its difficult to find anything about the KB2 (09-12 RL)

Yeah, with such low sales numbers, and the lack of aftermarket support/interest, I can see that. Unfortunate, but true...

My DD is a 2011 RL and I would recommend you leave the stock intake as is. Sure, you might like a "throatier" sound but then the ANC is going to work hard to cancel that out.

Suggestion, drive in sport (keeps the RPMS higher) and tilt your sunroof open. This will give you more of the engine sound without modding the car. I love how mine sounds sitting at the lights with the roof tipped open - easily mistaken for a Euro Tuner.

Background, I swapped the intake on my 03 Accord many years ago and loved the sound of it. Drawback is now you have to live with it. Still have that car which my oldest drives everyday, but the sucking sound when the weather is colder can get annoying until the car is warmed up. I don't drive as aggressive all the time anymore but there is plenty of noise when you want it. To go back to stock, I have all the parts but I'll require removing the bumper and battery and probably a couples of time.

Enjoy the KB2

Cheers!

^-- I'm with him.

It sounds great as it is. The xtra sound cheapens your car.

The RL appears low profile, then, those who mess get a little surprise. Keep the low profile.
