Hello all,


I'm planning on buying a set of JDM headlights and I want to have all the bulbs ready and know what I need to do.


Here is a list of the bulb sizes for RL headlights that I know of.


HID - D2S
High beam - 9005
Turn signal - 1157A


(I'm also replacing my fog lights which are size H11)


According to this thread https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...lights-905302/ the 1157A bulb in our lights are actually a 7440 bulb in Japan.



The HID cut-off is of course reversed.


So anyone who has done the JDM head light swap, can you please advise on how you got around that problem and if there are any other mods we need to look out for when installing the JDM lights. Do you need the JDM pigtails? Did you modify the JDM light to accept out 1157? Any pics? Thanks.

Sylvania website which shows most bulb sizes if anyone needs. Pretty handy.

Why wouldn't you just use 7440 bulbs?

To fix the cutoff issue, you need to swap the projectors.

Do the 7440's connect to our 1157A harness without modification? If not, what kind of mod is needed?

I also changed out the coin holder/this is not an ashtray bulb. I got it at a local parts store. It is a very small bulb. To replace it, the coin holder must be removed and then pull the bulb straight out (it's snug). The replacement size is 2721.

No. Good point. I wasn't thinking about that clearly.

It almost appears that the two bulbs would fit in the same socket. A good number of people have done this mod, and I don't remember this being an issue. Now that I think about, many people said you have to move a lot of parts over from the stock housing, so this may be one of those things.

Good to know. Seems like the swap is not particularly straight forward, but it should be pretty rewarding. One of my lights is damaged so for me its a win/win.

You can also message JnC if you need help finding headlights. He may be able to help you get a hold of some JDM headlights already swapped and converted to US specs.

Do you know if the coin holder 2721 can be replaced with a white LED bulb ?
Was your's blown and required replacement ?

Not sure if they make 2721 in a LED. Yes, I replaced mine because it was not working.

I have JDM Headlight lights, I ended up modifying the lights in order to twist in the 1157 socket. Just trimmed the plastic.
