Question I swapped in a Recaro seat for the OE marshmallow seat in my 2005 Acura RL

Looking for a Tuner-Shop electronics-savvy technician to check out all of the circuits that are now lying open on my floor. Car runs fine, but complaints from the air bag system make my wife nervous--altho' I think there is no problem for her side of car. Two shops in Rockville MD struck out when they tried to get in there and tidy up -- the problem was beyond their tool kits. Suggestions? BobW

WOW!, you must not of liked those seats. I think you will end up with many service and warranty issues. You have opened a can of worms I think, it will be interesting to see. The seats are such an integral part of so many of the safety systems I would not be surprised if Aura could void your warranty and you probably not be able to sue Acura if you have any liability issues at all. It will be interesting to follow, I hope I am wrong.

Indeed, I think that airbag systems and crush zones/forces are designed around the seats, because that is where the humans are sitting in a crash. With the new safety systems of modern cars, I doubt that seat replacements with after-market parts will be as common as they used to be. I also agree that the warranty probably will not be honored. There is probably fine print regarding this in the warranty agreement that came with the car.

The side airbags are actually IN the seats -- so that's probably where your warnings are coming from, since the bag is no longer there on the driver's side.

I too would worry about warranty issues.

The airbag sensors are being triggered because they are no longer getting the all-clear from the side-airbags built into the seats. While this won't provide a huge problem during regular driving, if you ever get into an accident and the problem causes your airbag to fail to trigger, Acura will have a reason to claim no responsibility for the problem.

With all due respect, why not just buy a new car if you don't find the seats comfortable?

Further, doesn't this belong in the G2 subforum?

I have an Acura tl, 05 and my driver seat feels as if there's a separation in the seat right in the middle of my butt, and it moves. What gives? And can it be fixed?

On my other cars that I had replaced the seats with, all was needed was the proper resistor in line to fool the srs system that an airbag is still there.

Pics please, and please tell us which model Recaro you purchased!

Post I swapped in a Recaro seat tor the OE . . .

Tx gang. BTW -- this was not for simple comfort -- but to alleviate serious chronic back pain (I'm 68 -- problems since 50). I've had the same Recaro seat thru my last three cars -- it's great -- it's the only thing that helps -- it fits my body snug and stabilizes it. (Sorry, I don't have the model # -- it's now about 16 years old -- no pix.) I agree with bkw that a simple resistor to fool the side air-bag check is the major piece of the fix -- but my tuner-shop guys claim they need Acura's computer-simulator-toolkit to do the job to Acura's required 0.1 volts and can't get one. They copped out after telling me it would be an easy fix. I understand the remarks about the warranties--I think I'll write to a VP for customer relations and appeal to their humanitarian instincts--or at least discover whether they have any -- or only lawyers (- . The other "official" answer is that "it's Federal law" -- so our lawyers won't let us do anything. This can be a show-stopper -- Aaargh !

hey, you might want to talk to Lenny @ Tischer Acura, he might be able to assist with aftermarket products installed in the cars....good luck.
