Apparently you can get used rear diffs for 150!?!?!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/400340380364...witem=&vxp=mtr

Carrier assembly is the same thing isn't it? Thats what Acura calls it on the parts page..

Yeah I agree. I have contacted a couple of the sellers to see what is going on here.

But there is a bunch of things called "Acura RL Rear Carrier Assembly" and I can only find 1 "Acura RL Rear Differential"

Acura calls it "Acura RL Rear Carrier Assembly" though.

Well the Rear Carrier is definitely the same thing as what we call the Rear Differential. I asked for pictures and got pictures of the used differential.

Differential cost me $125, shipping was 75!!! 66K Miles and from a front end collision car!

Outside has some surface rust but I'm not worried to much about that. I will try and clean it a little and spray some engine clear coat on some areas.

Ha I just noticed how bad the front was. Looks like the guy was thrown from the Window.

Also here is some pictures of the back chamber of the transmission on the drain plug...and the car was driving completely fine with only whining noises...wtf

Note to self, never use Amsoil ATF fluid in a Honda.

Usually, people who go through the windshield are on the passenger side. It's kinda hard to get over the steering wheel.

I used the Honda DSPF AWD fluid in the differential!! This was the only thing I didn't use Amsoil in!!

Somehow a small hole got poked in the side and fluid was leaking through there. The hole was at the top though.. The guy showed me what was left and there was hardly any fluid and it was all murky/silver/metal looking.

Wow thats crazy! Well at least I will know what to look out for if my car starts acting funny again.

I guess know we can close my thread about the transmission "grabbing" it was actually this thing I bet. I just hope it didn't damage the transmission. I might have them do a fluid change on that

I thought you said the picture of the gunk was the tranny. That's what I was talking about.

Yeah I thought the transfer and differential would be good since I filled them both myself, then i found out that the differential fluid drained out without me even noticing...so yeah differential was bad.

I wonder if this was caused by the switch from ATF to Acura's DPSF.

Heavy how many miles where on yours when you had the fluid switched and how many miles were on it before it went bad?

Got my used differential installed today. $352 for installation got the oil changed too while I was there.

$544 dollars and I have a perfectly good used differential that has half the miles of my old one. I inspected the used differential before having it installed. The oil coming out was completely clean. I pumped half a quart into each chamber and drained it and that was also clean.

I think I win the award for the person that has had their RL differential replaced the cheapest ever.

Used parts are the way to go with these RL's. New parts aren't worth the price. Saved myself a substantial amount of money which is good considering I am only working part time while going to college.

Looks like the drive shaft bearing is also bad. They said they have had a guy who has actually replaced the bearing before on it and it wasn't too bad and didn't take too long. I am having it done Thursday.

I'll check it out thursday.

I'm not sure if the bearing they are going to use is a part that you can buy from Acura, only that one of their mechanics had done it on a family members Acura RL before.

Alright its in the shop right now...they had to replace the bearing and the ujoint. I don't think this is a standard thing most shops would be willing to do just FYI. I will try to find out what parts they used when they picked it up.

Well I talked to them an hour ago, they had the bearing on pretty quickly, but they had to send it to another place in my area that does drive shafts and they are going to be putting on a "custom u-joint" because Honda doesn't sell any of these parts separately. I am actually thinking this will be better than a used or new drive shaft because I won't have the same parts from Honda that are obviously faulty to begin with.
