Bulb size is 194.

Read through this thread and follow the link on post #12. Always check the Garage section first, but we'll usually point you in the right direction if you can find it.

OP,
You will need to run two HID balasts somewhere if you want HID license plate bulbs.
Haven't seen it done yet, but you can be the first. lol
I think you want to change them to LED you mean right?
If you want LED, tnobori1 has the link for you.

Have fun and congrats on your purchase.

from my understanding , is it the only way to remove old stock bulbs by removing inside trunk carpet liner or you can do it from the outside ?

yes, you need to be a little forceful with the clips. Read the info in the link.

follow the link, you just need to remove top half of the clips, then fold down the cloth liner to access the 2 plate bulbs.

I think this thread may benefit from a title change from HID to LED.

Either of those. I just did this mod 2 days ago. Regardless of where you buy them...size 194, color 6K white.

my local auto parts store sells LED bulbs in various sizes.. they are a bit pricey vs the ones online... but i might grab a set and give it a try to see how they look.

while i"m at it i might get a pair for my wife's MDX...

HID bulb would not fit into the housing. not to mention the ammount of heat a HID bulb would produce in a small housing would melt the plastic lens and could potentially become a hazard.
