Extra Key

Is there a better/cheaper way to get an extra key/remote for a 2005 RL? I'd like an extra fully-functional key #1 for backup. I recall my dealer saying something over $300.

This seems to be a common issue for Honda/Acura. In their desire to provide anti-theft protection for their cars, they have come up with a pretty expensive solution. It is one thing for us "rich" RL drivers but I have seen the situation play out at both the Honda and Acura parts desk while servicing my cars: Lady walks up and says "I need an extra key and the hardware store says I need to come here"...parts guy says, "Yes, it will be $60"...lady takes a step back and says"What, really?!?" To me this theft prevention results in a different kind of theft and Honda should come up with a reasonable-cost solution or sell these keys at cost or include 4 keys up front with the cars.

PMokover- sorry for the rant. I would like to know an answer for this too. Hope someone has an answer for us all!

I don't think it is just Honda and Acura. I think most keys with the anti-theft chip are around $30 to $40. I lost my key and fob when I had my 04TL. Key from the dealer was $40 and I bought a fob on ebay for $5.00 that worked fine. I doubt if we'll see many fobs for the RL on ebay.

Yeah, the fob for my SL is $500. So do you think $300 is still too high. Had to replace one that was dropped in water.
