D-009: PAX Tires Help??? Please

Hello, I own a 2006 RL and have came across the problem the PAX tire system. They are extremely expensive to replace. Does anyone know why I can not put just standard tires on the factory rims? Has anyone done it before?

You can't put regular tires on the PAX wheels. The rims are asymmetrical and regular tires won't fit.

You have a few options: (1) Buy 4 PAX tires for approximately $1800, depending on where you live; (2) Buy new wheels, regular tires, lug nuts, possibly TPMS sensors, and a spare tire and the insert for the trunk, for approximately $2500 or so depending on what tires you buy.

There are several threads in the RL tire and wheel forum above that deal with the PAX tires and your replacement options. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time, it may make sense to buy new wheels and standard tires. The breakeven point between PAX and regular tires is approximately 2 complete tire set changes. ($1800 + $1800 for PAX, vs $2500 + $1000 for regular tires)
