CurryAcuraCure Ext. Warranty vs. Acura Dealer Ext. Warranty
Hello All,
I know there have been a ton of threads about extended warranties, however I could not find this information when I did a search. Is there any difference between the extended warranty offered thru an Acura dealer vs. CurryAcuraCure? For my 06 with 31K miles I got a quote from the dealer around $1800 w/zero deductible and I believe CurryAcuraCure was about $1500. Are they the same warranty both being backed by American Honda?
Any information, suggestions, and insight is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

They are the same. "CurryAcuraCare" is just a website run by Curry Acura to sell Acuracare.

When I purchased my 2005 RL 2 weeks ago from an Acura dealer, I was only given one warranty option from the dealership, a warranty from CNA National Warranty Corp, at a price of $1,995. I told them I want to think about it, did some research, and found the AcuraCare warranty offer at Curry for $1400. I went back to my dealer with that offer, and he immediately said "Oh, I can get you that for the same price for that warranty." He said both the CNA and AcuraCare are bumper to bumper for mechanical and electrical equipment (cosmetic items such as side mirrors I assume would not be covered). My guess is their mark up on the first warranty is much higher, and therefore the dealer doesn't even want to offer the AcuraCare warranty unless asked. For $100 more, I was able to get the AcuraCare with no deductible. I assume I will use at least once, so might as well pay the $100 up front.

For anyone buying used, just keep in mind that you can only purchase the Acura Care warranty while you are still under the manufacturer's warranty (4yrs/50k miles). And the longer you wait to purchase it, the more expensive the price gets.

I have an additional question about the extended warranty. My car has 31k miles and another 12 months under warranty. When is the optimal time to buy the extended warranty to get the best deal in terms of years/miles. Using the warranty 'calculator' on CurryAcuraCare.com, it looks like if I get the warranty before my car reaches 40K, I will still be able to get 60K additional miles and I am assuming another 5 years - obviously can not tell regarding the date. Once I go over 40K miles I only get the option for a 4y/48K extended warranty. Does this sound correct?

I don't know. I bought mine when the car had less than 6K on it, which I believe was the first tier of choices, but I do remember a tiered or stepped plan as you describe. Call them and see if your understanding is correct.
Once I decided to purchase the warranty, I just did it so I would not forget. I considered waiting until I was 5K+ miles, then buying to maximize the time value of money, but I know myself well enough that I might forget and screw myself, so I just did it.

For my '06 I was quoted 48/50,000 w/100 dectible for $1205, 0 for $100 more. Greg at Prestige Acura, gstirnaman@hanselauto.com. Curry was a little higher.
