I know there are a lot of people that'll say Odyssey or rebranded ones of that...which might be die hard...
I think there are only 3 truly separate manufacturers for batteries anyway.

Obviously gel batteries from Optima are a strong choice...
Personally, I had good luck with the 1000 CCA Bosch battery from Pep Boys in my 3G TL.

I'm gonna second the Azine rockstar. Bro earned his name, jkjk Optima batteries are truly the best option, but I've been running a Bosch battery in my RL. Put it in 2 months after I bought the car and it still cranks strong 5 years later. At the time, I got it from Pepboys and I got a 20$ coupon too.

Also worth noting it gets put on a tender if I know it will sit for more than 3 days.

If you sit on it for more than 3 days, you shouldn't be surprised by it being a little tender.

Basically, bigger is better. The highest-capacity batteries you can put in an RL are bigger than stock, made for bigger cars, and require some modification around them to install them. Some people have explored this; you'll want to search the threads.

Reason I ask is because I notice my RL is a little slow to start up in the morning, I run a lot on my interstate battery - HID fogs, Dash cam, radar detector, Heads up display, normal HID lights and I'm considering a new project so I want the strongest battery I can put

so Optima red seems to be the one but it's only 720 amp.. can I do better?

It's gel, so I think that deep cycle is what matters.
Slow to start might be a tired starter too though, no?
Those accessories don't draw much amperage.
I thought you were running 4 15's or something...

Not sure really, but I just purchased one from acura so it would fit properly and be perfectly rated for the car. It was also cheaper than any parts store batteries.

great job only giving him half the solution!

Go back to when your current battery was brand new!
Also, good time to salvage marriage and not pick up bad eating habits!

Do you think it's a perceived struggle to turn over, or mechanical/electrical??

For what its worth, I am running air setup and have upgraded to an Optima Yellow top. I believe one of the, if not, the best.

better get more now rather than have another thread in a few months/years saying you need more.

What brands fit with our wonky positive terminal that takes up a huge amount of space on the top of the battery?

I have always stuck with Honda/Acura batteries because of this stupid terminal.

I'm happy with my Bosch as well, it's lasted me over 5 years now. RL015 was happy with his Bosch until he had to warranty it, then things became difficult on that front...

Just bought the Bosch from Pep Boys - 30% off right now if you buy online and pickup in store. Fit like a glove, and thankful for the 710CCA vs 550CCA of the Acura battery. No idea why Honda puts such a low capacity battery in such a electronic-heavy car.

I have an old Honda 100-Month battery in my Accord and it still starts the car with vigor. So? Would you believe the darn thing will be 10-years old this coming March?

From my experience and that of a lot of other people on this board, you won't see that happen on an RL.

I keep my cars on tenders that seems to have prolonged the life of all my batterys esp on the juice hogs like TL and RL.

To sell you another in 24 months, when it fails, and its warrantee is out.

I bought a Gel, but eliminator brand last year, says 750CCA but clocked 1035 on the test.

And I still feel it's not enough for the RL. I think I'll need to go top quality brand next.

If I suddenly honk for 3-4 secs, a sensor or two get weak and i get dash lights. Once i stop the horn, lights go off.

Low current either due to battery, or whatever distributes current?

I’m on my third Acura battery since 2008, when I bought my 05. It wasn’t cranking strong at startup so knew it was time, no other symptoms. I average 3.5 to 4 years with an Acura battery. Price from the dealer was hard to beat at $89. To me, 3.5-4 years seems very short for battery life. Dealer tested my old battery and said it passed under load, what a crock. Car fires up great with this new battery so clearly the old one lost cranking power.

True, Honda doesn't care much about their batteries, that much is clear...

Your dimming and dashlight issues extend to your electrical system, my car, even on a Acura branded battery, has never had those problems, and I've owned this car 10 years now.

There was no dimming but cmbs comes up, sometimes two more, then it goes off.

This stopped happening since they recently had to re-program everything due to an issue with steering angle sensor that happened while they had the car (for mysterious reasons ).

My guess is its something to do with power distribution and the previous re-programming was faulty.

Gel battery still going strong; knock on wood. It has a 5 year warranty vs 2 for the dealer's.

My experience with Bosch is a bit opposite. I had it for a year and half and tried to claim the warranty when I was given such run-around not only by PepBoys but by the manufacturer who is couple of counties south from where I live.
Fill the form get it approved, ship the battery for diagnostics (!? = $$$) if approved, it would be prorated... all this PepBoys will not even budge on - instead of them doing this, I was told Bosch is the party to contact.

I have the bosh AGM battery, went out after the alternator died, pep boys replaced it without question, it was still under warranty. I can tell the AGM battery is better in the cold (-10 or below) other then that I don't notice a big difference.
