Title is misleading I know I'm sorry! Ok so first off I ordered my aspec front lip last night. I was planning on doing the install myself as I had no idea how in depth it is! I just read the official Acura accessory install procedure and am taken back. I know dav3nyc did the install, has anyone else tackled this themselves? Can you give a degree of difficulty based on the official instructions? Anyone have a real DIY write up? Anyone have a clue how long a dealer would take to do? Would a decent bodyshop tackle this for cheaper? I'm not a rookie but using a hacksaw on my front bumper completley thrown me off! Sorry for the long post please give insight and any relative info on installing yourself or prices and time length for pros to complete front aspec lip install!

When looking at the Apsec lip parts diagram I always wondered how that was going to fit on the existing body...I didn't know you had to cut it lol...

Yup i just did mine.. there are some marks on the backside of the bumper to guide you. get a little soap and water to clean the inside of the bumper to help make them more visible.

I used a dremel with a cutoff tool for mine. and drill the 2 holes for the front mounts. and the rest is cake from there.

So remove front bumper, take cutting tool to back of bumper following the guides that are there, then drill the holes to bolt the lip to bumper? That doesn't seem to bad. Reading the provided instructions seems super difficult. How precise does the cutting out of the bumber have to be as it will be hidden by the fog cover? Carbon can you give anymore details on your install? Difficult points? Things to be watchful of? Etc...

Just be sure to drill dead center off the crosshairs marked on the bumper. not much room for error on there. clean the bumper area with rubbing alcohol where the 3m strips are.. wax and prep cleaner did not work so well and the 3m did not stick. the cutting does not have to be PRECISE.. but pretty close cause the whole are is covered up by the foglight area. just don't get all buck wild on it..lol

Awesome man that provided pic really will help me that's exactly what I needed! That seems like the hardest part of it all! I was hoping to like with all my cars take parts off and sale once I'm done with it but from the pcd install which was a bleep to the semi custom wheels and now hacking up my front bumper doesn't look like I'll be taking much off this car when I'm all done again thanks carbon you probably saved me a couple hundo! Did you follow the Acura instructions to the T?

Hahaha I know! Sorry but I really had no idea this required cutting the bumper! Now future modders beware, you must cut your bumper in order to install the front A-spec lip! There is no going back whatsoever! I probably would not have purchased the lip had I known this!

Yea I'm thinking of tackling the removal and cutting of my bumper so I know how to do everything and have it all prepped and setup before the lip arrives.. How long do you guys think this would take? Should I just wait and tackle it all at once? I dont have cutting tool any cheap effective recommendations?

I would recommend just waiting until the lip arrives to do the work. As far as tools, go buy a Dremel. You don't need to go crazy buying a Dremel. They cost anywhere from like $25 all the way up to $200. I would suggest buying a mid-range one that has a stronger motor and variable speeds. I bought the 3000 model and it has served my well. I think it was like $69. You'll use it for a lot of stuff down the road.

Yeah, I read through the instructions. They scared me half to death, and I have even drilled a blind hole through my firewall.

I am all for saving money, making sure my car is in good hands and DIY, but that one might be too much for me. If you do it, please take pics and notes. I would like to see how well it comes out from a non-mechanic.

Are you just doing the front lip, if so how much does that alone cost? Also does anyone know how much the whole aspec body kit costs?

OP, I personally think the front lip is fine alone, but if you are trying to impress at a meet, you will want the whole nine.

Anyone know why oemacuraparts is saying the aspec lip I ordered isn't for my 2005 model and they won't guarentee fitment? Even though all 05-08 RL's are the same? The front bumpers all share the same part numbers.. The rears are diff part numbers but I'll assume that's because of the back up sensors... I'm confused here my color is lakeshore silver and color code is nh686m which I ordered 08f01-sja-240. They claim it's for 2006 model..

Also I ordered window visors and there were two part numbers to choose from which threw me off again they are 08r04-sja-200 and 08r04-sja-201... I went with the 201 did I order the wrong visors?

I have found many instances on that site where the online catalog isn't consistent, especially with color codes. You have nothing to worry about IMHO. They are all the same.

A good example of inconsistency is the front door lock cover that Tappatop was looking for. For all colors except NBP, there was the correct part #, but for NBP, it gave the rear door part number. I wouldn't sweat it, but if you are really concerned, call up Tim and he will set you up.

I don't think they made the "a-spec" in 2005 so all the parts are for 2006+. But they all bolt up perfect and there are zero fitment issues.

I do not understand where this hole is supposed to be cut ?
It looks like the center of the front bumper ?

The hole is cut around the foglight. notice the lower vent that sits below the foglight

Maybe a dumb question but I'll ask anyway... Is it safe to throw a fresh coat of wax, in my case sealant on the lip when I get it? I can only imagine the paints cured after sitting on a shelf for a couple years maybe?

Damn! The rear portion requires the use of a "hacksaw" to! Loooks like I might not be completing this kit!

I was just saying that the rear portion needs modifying as well, we will see how the front comes out that will determine how confident I am about the rear too, anyone know what size cut off wheel to get? I don't have a dremel and never used one, are there kits you can buy that include a dremel and different attachments? FedEx will be here with the lip tomorrow and I'll be shopping for a drill set and a dremel set. Any reccomendations on either?

yea they have kits available. the ez loc fiber wheels are a good choice. medium speed on the dremel
