Acura unveils A-SPEC RL at SEMA!!

Acura today unveiled an A-SPEC performance package for its RL luxury performance sedan at the 2004 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas. It will go on sale in the spring of 2005 at Acura dealers nationwide.

The all-new Acura RL, which went on sale last month, features a bold new design, a powerful 300-horsepower engine, the SH-AWD all-wheel drive system and an assortment of leading-edge technology including a real time traffic information system. The RL A-SPEC package enhances the already crisp handling and aggressive styling with a track-tuned suspension package that lowers the car by approximately 3/4 inch, 18-inch alloy wheels equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, an underbody kit, and a deck lid spoiler. The RL A-SPEC kit will be priced at approximately $5,500 plus dealer installation and covered under a factory warranty.

In addition to the A-SPEC equipped RL, Acura featured an assortment of high performance models by import tuners and racing companies. Making their debut at SEMA were
two unique versions of Acura's hot-selling TSX sports sedan. The Comptech TSX, supercharges the 2.4-liter TSX engine and adds a cold air intake, plus a stainless header and exhaust system to increase horsepower from 200 to 240. Comptech springs, a rear sway bar and 18-inch tires increase handling precision while lending an even more aggressive look. The second TSX on display was the RealTime Racing TSX racecar driven by Pierre Kleinubing on the 204 SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge circuit.

Tuner icon RJ DeVera debuted his own interpretation of a high performance Acura TL performance luxury sedan. DeVera, who showcased a modified Honda Accord at last year's SEMA, utilized a combination of RO_JA and other aftermarket accessories with Acura A-SPEC parts to create a car aimed squarely at today's enthusiast buyer. It features an A-SPEC suspension, a custom RO_JA body kit, and a Comptech supercharger.

Also appearing in the Acura booth was a heavily modified Acura NSX supercar customized by Super Street Magazine and XMOS RC Racing. Featured on the October cover, this NSX was offered as first prize in the 2004 XMODS XRL National Tournament. It features over $30,000 in modifications from Volk, Rotora, Taitec and others.

very overpriced for what you get, I'd definetly get the mugen kit over the A-spec body kit

So tame and meek. The mugen kit is soo hot compared to this.
I mean at least slap on the 18"+ TL rims, these look like 17's?

Geez, this could probably give some old geezers a heart attack, but thats about it.
lol. Way too tame, I mean probably not the same design team that works on the infamous SEMA kits, but still. Even the TL kit is really really HOT HOT HOT. What gives?

I wonder wut the sticker would be for the a-spec kit . This kit looks good, but not as good as the a-spec kit for the 04 TL.

Like all the other overpriced A-SPEC kits, this will definitely be a very rarely bought item.

Not only that, the notion of selling an A-SPEC package to the typical RL buyer seems like an uphill battle.

I agree, you probably wont see too many A-SPEC RL driving around. Good try, nice technology but I think the TL is still a better buy.

I love those chromies tho, unfortunately the dealer said they wont fit the TL, different bolt pattern/

not feeling it at all, especially the rims, they just dont look right. That car would look way better with the mugen kit and some 19 inch Ron Jon Inspyres

I could not have said it better myself! I have been waiting for ventilated seats in the Acura line for a long time! I thought they were supposed to be in the RL, but no one has confirmed their existence!

Rep points, BTW!

I'd put 19" Volks on there, some Teins w/ EDFC and call it a day. No body kit necessary. Oh yeah, CAI, headers, high flow exhaust too.

It's supposed to be $5,000. That's including the suspension, wheels, and body kit upgrade.

Eeesh.

The Mugen looks like a step up...almost a different car. This A-Spec looks slapped together and ruins the simple lines the RL established with the new body. Definite thumbs down from me...

is it just me or does the plain RL look better than a kitted RL? I usually love body kits...but the A-spec and the Mugen kit seem to take away from this car. It looks nice and slick w/o anything on it. what do you think?

It's been a while since I've been tempted to consider looking at another car. Don't get me wrong, I've had my CLS 6MT for about 2 years now with all the CompTech goodies installed (including the S/C) and I still love driving it -- but this new RL is very tempting. If I didn't already have the CLS, I'd probably go with the A-Spec RL. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's an auto. But I could get used to that again like I did with the '01 CLS I originally owned before trading it in for my '03 CLS 6MT.

Well, since that was the TL A-spec Concept, might not work too well for the RL, but I think I follow ya.
