Alternator Issue
Ok, been hearing a loud whine for about 3 days now. Topped off my power steering, same noise. Drove this weekend to DC, car ran great. This morning ready to go to work and the noise is louder, check charging system error/battery symbol comes on and getting a burning smell around alternator area, so i can safely say its the alternator. If anyone can give me any tips/tricks on replacing it as quickly as possible, they will be greatly appreciated. Planning on getting a Denso, anyone know the most inexpensive cheapest place to get one? Any assistance will be helpful. Thanks Acurazine.

Here's where I'm at so far. Napa Auto: Denso Alt=$189.99 + 73.00 core=262.99 (1 yr warr.) Napa brand Alt. 185.99 + 82.50=268.40 (lifetime warranty) Is the Napa Alt as good as the Denso?

HI,
I went thru the same thing just last weekend. I went with the Denso reman unit from NAPA. I think they still have the online sale if you buy 3 items you get 20% off. I ordered 2 small bottles of spray that I needed anyway and the alternator cost me $170 or something like that.
Instructions say to remove the pass fan so the alternator comes out the front. I found the process quicker by removing the overflow tank, moving the PS reservoir to the side and squeezing the alternator out toward the fender side.
Good luck.

Back in business, Was able to muscle it out over the fender; didn't have to remove the fan. Lower bolt on alternator was a pain tho but if I had decent tools it would have been a breeze. Went with the Napa alternator. (lifetime warranty). Also swapped out the drivebelt, that was another pain trying to route that thing but its all good. @80Stang, your call was invaluable, thanks for taking the time to help me get my car back on the road. Now just gotta reset all my settings, radio, etc but i'm rolling! Alt was 20% off at Napa as well. Today was a good day.
