2006 RL Brake Pads
One of our favorite topics...
A few years back I bought from one of the vendors on here drilled/slotted rotors and some very aggressive street pads that make my RL stopl like RIGHT NOW.
I have been hearing the front rotors squeak which indicates they might be getting thin. I thought the pads I put in are StopTech but I can't find a part number for them.
Any help with a part number?

Did you coat the back of the pad with copper grease? If you didn’t, you can get squeaking. I put new akebono pads on at 80k and I have at least half the pad left at 130k. How many miles on your pads?

rlerman, thank you for your reply. I am due to rotate the tires, and I was going to take a look at the pads to see where we are with the wear. If there is lots of life on them, I am going to pull the pads and put some coating on the back side. It is possible the piston has worn through the backside down to the metal.
I was wondering if the TL/TLX calipers are the same sizes as the size as there is StopTech pads available. The pads on there now STOP NOW and make the people behind me get that fear factor moment.

The right front squeaked a couple of times today, so I pulled the RF tire, and the pads. The pads were only at 50%. What the cause was that one of the metal. limit strips was out of adjustment. It was closer than the other one. So a minor tweak was in order. I put it all back together and that should have resolved the issues.

What rotors are you using? I am bit frustrated that last three attempts to get good rotors have failed, because I don't get to use pads all to the end because rotors end up shaking my steering wheel... What's strange is that I am not a fast driver, I don't slam brakes, none of that... Driving normally, on the slower side I would say and normal braking... Beats my mind... I am set to replace my rotors and pads, but not sure what to get at this point... Solid rotors for sure, perhaps centric from tire rack and akebono pads... If that fails me, have no other option but to go OEM stock... Clueless at this point to be honest

I have Centrics with akebono pads. I put them on at 80k and now have 130k and they have a lot of life left, at least half. I do mostly suburban type driving and I’m not hard on the brakes.

My powerstop pads have been great on OEM (unchanged) rotors.
When my rotors disintegrate, I'll be going centric, and will finally give akebono a try too

So after only a year and about 12k miles these brakes were shot - at least the front ones... I will never buy their rotors again, pads I might.
Anyhow, I thought I give it a try and will replace my front brakes with Centric High Carbon rotors and Akebono Ultra-prem Ceramic pads... rear ones seem to be in ok status for now, so will replace those eventually. I will report how they are after I put some miles on them.

Akebono brake pads are nice but keep in mind they do not come with new hardware.so I highly recommemd you buying the hardware in addition to the pads. Worn hardware can lead to squeaking..theyre cheap too!
