'06 Transmission & AFS Fault Code Together?
'06 RL 53k miles driving home from work and for no apparent reason had two fault codes appear: Transmission and AFS (adaptive front lighting). Anyone else ever experienced or heard of this? I drove a couple miles to the nearest gas station pulled over and shut the car off. I gave it about 5-mins... checked under the car (no trans leak) and then checked the trans fluid. Level is fine but fluid is pretty dirty... pretty much brown. Restarted the car and drove home without any faults. Needless to say going to make an appointment to have the trans flushed and ask them about this. BTW I've driven the car for 15k since used purchase without any problems.

Don't "flush" the transmission fluid, just have it "changed." Search around the board for more info on this. Don't let the dealer or whoever you take it to sell you on a "flush." I'm sure others will chime in here.

Thank You rlerman.... I see now.
I'll do a drain and fill a few times, running through the gears. Weird there is no filter to change.
The dual AFS and Trans soft fault must have been a fluke or something... maybe nothing to worry about unless it happens again.

^^^The drain bolt has a magnet on the end of it to collect metal debris. When you remove it clean off the debris on the end of the bolt. It will be sludge like. Aftermarket sells add on transmission filters. I am considering one.
My immediate plan is to change the transmission fluid everytime I change the oil. Might as well I am right there at it anyway when I change the oil. I am going to monitor the debris (metal shavings) on the magnet at the end of the drain bolt to see the amount of bebris. If it is minimal I will not add the filter. If it is fully covered I will add the filter. I previously had a TL so I am Transmission worried.
