05 RL Excelerate UR Crank Pulley Install Issue

Hello guys! I was wanting to know if anyone has this issue when they installed their Unorthodox Racing Crank pulley on their 05-08 RL. I finally got to having it installed by my mechanic, and he told me and I physically saw him place it over the crankshaft, and it would not fit on. It was like the boring of the pulley was not big enough to fit over the crankshaft. I originally purchase the pulley from HeelToe brand new, so it was not used and the application stated it was for our RLs. I emailed HeelToe about the issue, and they told me to try to bore the pulley out some more to make it fit!? I should not have to do that if the pulley is suppose to be made for the RL and should fit with no complications. Their wasn't a disclaimer on the product before purchasing that it will need to be modified to fit. I'm still waiting for that reply from them because I thought that was a bit unprofessional for them to suggest that. They had even asked me to try to measure the diameter of my crankshaft where the pulley goes on and the diameter of the pulley. Why should I have to do that?? I'm just kind frustrated because they really had no definite answer for me to why it does not fit. Fellow owners, please chime in if you guys came across this issue at all!

Thanks!

It should fit since the Rl crankshaft is the same as the TLS. Maybe they sent you the wrong one or it’s a manufacture defect

My best bet is same as yours on the defected product. They're now asking me to measure the inside diameter of the pulley, so I'll see what they say once I give them that measurement.

I have been emailing back and forth with HeelToe and this is the most recent reply I had back from them:

This method of measuring is a little too inaccurate for us to do much with. Also without knowing the crank diameter we have no comparative figure to comment on. If the part is machined off more than a reasonable amount differently than the crank it is actually the wrong size and won't work. Your mechanic should know the difference between "this part isn't fitting quite as it should so we'll work it on" and "this part ins't made for the car and needs to be returned."

We would recommend taking the pulley to a more qualified mechanic who understands how removing a small amount of material can make finicky parts fit without detrimentally causing the part to go out of specification. Or at the minimum, be able to measure the size difference so we can know for sure if the part is wrong or not. We consider this to be a very simple and basic practice.

As a customer, I don't think I should have to go through and measure the inaccuracies of the part and compare it to my car. Sounds like this a manufacturer defected part and they don't want to admit or own up to it? All I want is the correct part for my car.

I mean if it was any other part I would go ahead and shave some materials. but the UR cranks should be 0 gram balance. I would Email https://www.unorthodoxracing.com/ and see what they say. They are they one contacted by excelerate to make the UR pullies. Unless you got one of the Ralco or no name one

Yea, I'll see what the follow up email from HeelToe says then I'll try Unorthodox Racing. But, yes, I do have the UR lightened pulley.

Here is an update with the response they gave me and is of no help to me and the cause for why it does not fit perfectly. This isn’t what they replied to me below, they I mean Heeltoe.

That's unfortunate. It is not ideal when the mechanics are unable to cooperate with customization. This is why there is a difference between a general mechanic and a builder/fabricator/tuner when you are seeking work done on the car. General mechanics would much rather your car be 100% stock when they work on them and it is specifically because of issues like this where they are unfamiliar with normal processes of car modification

That is a lightweight pulley, I might consider this for my 08 RL as well

Cool. That's what my route will be after I save money for it since Heeltoe sent me a UR pulley that doesn't fit and told me I need to "modify" it to work. Last time I will do business with them or even recommend them.

I got the Ralco RZ pulley in the mail the other day. I compared the diameters of the center bore of the pulley to my UR pulley, and they are the same size. I'm afraid that this may not work but I'm still going to try to have it installed and see what happens. Can anyone else chime in on this??
