Retrieve Unlock Codes for Radio and Navigation Devices

"The Radio/Navigation Code and the device unit's serial number are listed on the anti-theft ID card that comes with the vehicle. The card is usually placed in the glove box at the time of delivery."

Did anyone actually get one of these cards at delivery? I'm asking specifically about a 2016 RDX.

Yes. I even had an RDX loaner once that had it in the glove box. Radio anti theft codes are a carryover from an earlier time when you could easily move a radio from one car to another. Now, radios are mostly model specific, so the RDX radio from a 2016 RDX will only fit another 2016 RDX and the removal process (if you want to keep the radio intact) takes time and skill.

Get the code from your dealer and put it in a file in your house - not in your car. The bad guys are used to rifling through the glove box to get the radio code and will normally take the radio and the owner's manual (where the code normally is) when a radio gets stolen from a car like an older Civic or Accord

He should have gotten the code from the dealer. If he didn't, then he should ask for it from the dealer and keep it in a safe place outside of the car.

The only time he might need it is following a loss of power or if the radio is removed.

My dealer informed us that the code is on file at the dealership in the service section and no longer on a card in the glove box on 2016 models. If that is the case then why not update owners manual.

That does you a lot of good if you need the code and aren't at the dealer. While any Acura (and possibly Honda) dealer can retrieve the code, that doesn't help you otherwise.

Call the dealer and get the code. It is your car, your radio, your code. The dealer is full of smelly stuff.

Acura client relations says that codes are no longer needed in the case of a 2016 RDX. Something about pressing and holding the power button. And, in any event a card with the pertinent info will arrive in the mail in a couple of weeks. I agree with the poster about why the owner's manual isn't updated to include this info. The compass calibration deal is likewise irritating. Thanks to all.
