Questions regarding first service of 2015 RDX

Hello,
I bought RDX 2015 (AWD with Tech package) in May this year and clocked only 3500 miles till now. It was sitting in garage for 30 days in October. No issues, no alert till now.
- I am confused, when should I take it for first service. Should I wait till 5000 miles ?
- Another bigger confusion is, what should be covered in first time servicing ? Should I go with recommendation, whatever dealer will suggest ? Or it will be strictly based on, what MID will indicate (there is no alert till now)
- Third question - I bought this car from the dealer, who is 35 miles from my place. He sent me a coupon which includes free Replacing engine oil, Tire rotation and Checking tire pressure. I think, it is called A1. This is valid till 2/29. Is it goo to drive 70 miles to avail it free or I should go to nearby dealer, who is 8 miles from me ?
This is first time service for this car, so I am still learning and seeking suggestions.
(I stay in Torrance, which is consider to be moderate climate, always ran on good roads)
Regards

Take it in for service, I usually go every 5-6 months since I don't rack a lot of mileage

It's probably just going to be an oil change and inspection. Up to you if you wanna drive 70 miles, it won't hurt the car lol

Thanks.
I meant, free far dealer vs paid near dealer :-) . As I don't know, how much it will cost

Many Acura dealers seem to charge over $100 for the A1 service.

In that case, driving 70 miles seems to be ok :-)

You are worried about driving 35 miles one way for service.. What...?
Are you afraid to drive too far from home or are you hard pressed for time? Many Acura dealers will give complimentary car when your's is in for service (usually if more than 2 hours work involved). You can do some local shopping at that place in those few hours.
Question I would be asking is...who is open during weekend or after-hours. If the nearby dealer provides those services he may get my business, otherwise the business goes to the 35 miles away free dealer.

No no, I am not afraid of driving 70 miles. My question was for money reason. If first service takes $100, then it would worth to use coupon where I will save some money.

See if the dealer closer to you will honor the coupon. That would save you time and money.

That would be the smart thing to do, which means it won't happen.

$100+ for an oil change + tire rotation is highway robbery, you can get the same thing done at a Honda dealer for $50 or less if you do not want to DIY.

Owners manual says follow MID or one year for oil change intervals. Depending on your driving habits that could be 5000mi or 7500mi. I have followed this procedure for both of my Acura's without issues.

Your free oil change will be dependent on whether its worth it to you. I drive almost 20 mi to go to my dealer for service. Is it worth it to me? yes. I have developed a very good rapport with them over the years.

Your A1 service can be had for $70-75 if you ask for an oil change and tire rotation. Ask for an A1 and you will pay $120+. This is why it is wise to read the OM to know the codes and how the MID system works for your maintenance schedule.

What I meant is why is this even a question. If there are two dealers and only one offers a free service , I would take that provided other things being equal. I would consider it a pleasure to drive the half an hour it would take me to reach the far away dealer. If you are hard pressed for time and the nearby dealer honors the coupon, then you are all set. You can ask about complimentary car services. You can also make service bookings through owners.acura.com at your leisure. Good luck.

Though it is 6 months but not yet touched 5000 miles and there is no indication/alert of MID. Seems like, I can still wait for some more time to take it to dealer

The system will alert purely on mileage/driving style but does not take time into consideration. That is why the manual requires a service when indicated by the car or every year - whichever comes first.

Most people will see an alert in the 7000 mile range.

So, should I wait till there is an alert or for an year, whichever comes first ? Or I can take it to dealer now ?

I don't mean to be picky, but your question was already answered in the previous post .

Ah yes Comfy :-)
I just got confused, if 'waiting for MID alert' is right time or one year and other post said, I can take it now to dealer

The other thing about the one year or MID whichever comes first... the factory fill oil needs to stay in the engine for as long as possible because there are special break in additives in the oil.

If you are looking for a short answer....WAIT, until the MID tells you or next May, whichever comes first.

Let me explain it again.

If the car alerts you that you need a service then you get it serviced.

If you've driven a year and have not gotten an alert then get it serviced.

Take the car in when you get the alert OR you've had the car one year.

My A1 (15% left)came up at 9+ months/11,000 KM. I happily kept going till it hit 5%, then booked my service.

Do not go in because you THINK you should, go in (as has been said) at the MM notification or one year.

How long between 5 and 15? No sense bringing it until 5?

I've found about 500 miles between 15 and 10 and then another 500 to 5, then another 500 to 0.

I start thinking about looking at my schedule at 15, get around to looking at it at 10 and get it done usually before the 5%. 5% makes me feel a little uncomfortable but technically 5% is fine.
