Trading 2014 RDX for 2014 TLX?

Hi guys I need some advice. Back in January I bought a 2014 RDX Tech and added about $2,200 in accessories. It came up to around $44K. Now I have my eyes set on the TLX and would like to trade. I only owe $21,000 on the RDX because I put a lot of money down. How much do you think a dealer would give me for my 2014 RDX, it has 9K miles on it.

because you have your tinfoil hat on, i will answer accordingly.

you dont know if you like the TLX or not because it hasnt come out yet silly.
and why the fuck are you wasting money?
if you're going to be trading so soon, why not lease?

you will never get back what you paid for the RDX.
also, because Acura is tricking you with the mileage.

edit*
what the fuck do you do that you can afford to live in NY and switch cars, so often?
oh, your username answered it.
accountant for 20 years.....you need to be smarter with your money.

Unfortunately, the 14 TLX will sell for close to retail for a while. Being an all new model, it will have some bugs that will take until the mid 14 or even the 15 model year to work the major ones out. The RLX isn't selling very well and the depreciation is pretty brutal. You could probably do a straight trade with your RDX for one. USA still love their crossovers/SUVs/trucks of all sizes and they are starting to make a comeback in sales because of improved mpgs. You might have to give the TLX a little time before jumping ship. The TLX is just going to get better in time if you can wait.

Actually he is not 100% correct

The TLX will NOT arrive as a 2014. It will most certainly appear as a 2015 initially and the bugs won't get worked out until 2016.

I love my Acura's; but, they seem to stumble a little bit for first model year vehicles. I'm willing to bet the TLX will be one hell of a vehicle once the MMC is worked in. That is when I would start considering this vehicle and have the pre-MMC if they jack up the refresh styling.

Acc20years....I agree with the comments of others. The TLX will likely be a decent looking car (minus the wheels) but I suspect the first year might be a bit buggy.

I would recommend that you hold on to your RDX a while longer and let some of teh glitches worked out. The RDX is a very popular vehicle with Acura and I have no doubt you will be able to sell yours very quickly and get a decent price for it. Trading has some advantages over selling privately but will lose a little extra. Given that you are so new into your RDX and put have some extra money with accessories, it could be advantageous to at least see if you can sell private and get the money the dealer would get....They'll likely give you about 2500$ less than what they'll sell it.

I had an RDX and was a great vehicle too but recently got rid of it....

The TLX is probably going to be a nice car but seriously, if your going to trade for a sedan, might as well get a RWD BMW or Mercedes instead. I owned a bunch of Honda, Acuras, Toyota, and ONE BMW all my life and the car I enjoy driving the most is my BMW 3 series.

Okay Acc20 I did the same thing you were thinking about I bought a 2013 RDX in Dec 2012 then 3 months later traded it in for same car just different color, I gave same amount of down payment like you. And to answer your question I bought my first RDX for 35,200 just car and they gave me 31,500 for mines. So you lose about 4k on the trade in. I got second car same price as first purchase and it was the best deal I found in town, and taxes were low because of trade in.

Really? you traded it for another RDX (same year, same everything, only different color) and lost 4K in the process? So, basically you paid 4K for a paint job. No offense meant, but ... wow!!!!

Well I have decided to keep my RDX for a while. I really like it, it's not perfect but for the price I think it is still a great value.

Good call!! I understand that sometime, we wish we would have done things differently but its always to think things through and resist the urge to change for the sake of changing. As you know, the TLX has been delayed and chances are, will not be bug-free so waiting a little is likely a great idea

BTW...Saw your accessories photos and they look amazing

cars depreciate. there's no need to switch car so soon unless you have the extra money. 5-7 yrs later, even a lower grade car will come with comparable feature to your car today. it may not drive like the TLX but for sure there will be something new being offered.

Thank you weather, I also got the OEM all season floor mats, rear seat cover and cargo tray. I gotta say, the cargo tray is really awesome at keeping debree off your carpet. And it cleans very easily, just pull it out and hose it off, dry and presto! LOL

Sales of the RDX are down 16% this May vs last May.

http://acuranews.com/channels/acura-...percent-in-may

So with '14 RDX's going at invoice and under, you're going to get raped without lube.
Add in like others stated the TLX will be close to list or at list when it comes out.

-12% actually. -16% is the Daily Selling Rate, not sure what it means exactly.

For Canada, it's 4.3% increase for the RDX

The sales for the MDX is up 107% for the same time period. I think Acura is having customers move up to the MDX instead of staying with the RDX.

No surprise ... you can't get features on the RDX you expect in a premium brand. I think they're also losing customers back to Honda. I expect the NX to have an immediate impact on the RDX's numbers, too. Then there's the Cherokee, MKC, and a host of new competitive models from other brands just around the corner. The mid-cycle update had better be pretty extensive. New wheels, a redesigned grille and updated paint options aren't going to cut it.

The RDX doesn't even have parking sensors, nor LED rear lights, no rear A/C vent, no Blind Spot Monitoring, no fog lamps and halogens standard and missing a bunch of pretty basic items in many non luxury cars let alone luxury ones. It lost its SH-AWD and is CR-V based. There is no direct injection and the passenger seat is a 4 way power seat lol. No cooled seats or even rain sensing wipers. It is missing a TON of basic features. A Ford Escape or Hyundai/KIA SUV offers far more.
This may should and may change with the midcycle refresh.

Long time lurker here.

Talking about depreciation hit, I took a big one yesterday selling my 2013 RDX Tech AWD with 15K miles I bought in March 2013. Perfect Condition. I sold it yesterday for less than what I would have liked to get since I had one hell of a time selling it. Got almost no interest on CL, of course there was some interest and offers but none serious enough to commit.

I ended up selling to an Acura dealership after going through various buy centers, dealerships, Autonation, carmax, etc...

Why did I sell? Well, I test drove a Tesla Model S and fell in love. It arrives next week. Don't get me wrong, I love the RDX. I even tried to convince my wife to sell her Odyssey and keep the RDX, but no dice.

I'll just have to move past this irresponsible financial decision I made, in which is not characteristic of me. Before I had the RDX, I had a 2000 Civic Si with 200,000 miles on it.

Did you get it in red?

I think Jaguar and Telsa make some good looking sedans.

You betcha. Seeing a bunch of Teslas together at the Fremont plant, the red one stands out like that red rose in a black and white photo.

Could have wrapped it for Less.
Depending on your payment you lost 4k plus the 3 months of notes
