Smile hello! Rookie here needing advice :))

Hi! From Tampa area. Have been in a 99 Acura Integra and then 2 Acura ILX generations so far - looking to get advice on getting into a high mileage 14 RDX?! Wanted to get some feedback and thoughts. New to these forums in general so not sure where to start a thread to ask --- 14 RDX with 78k miles locally owned and maintained at dealership (per carfax) - what do I need to know about long term RDX high mileage? Reliable well over 100k? Google doesn't return much in the RDX long term reliability reviews. Looking at the car Saturday. Fully loaded w nav for 'e-price' (eye roll lol) $18890?! (Let me know which forum to start a new thread if this is not a good place?!) thanks so much all!!

Hey!! welcome aboard!!

Here is the RDX sub-section:
https://acurazine.com/forums/second-...-rdx-2013-404/

tis where most people with RDX's hang out

onto your question, the engine that's in the RDX has been in production since 1996! very reliable engine!
and people have been generally happy with no real complaints or issues.

here is the 2nd gen RDX problem and fixes sub-section:
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rdx-problems-fixes-409/

looking through it, there doesnt seem to be ANY real problems. just little nuances and concerns

Welcome. Since this is more model specific than general introduction, I'm moving this thread over to 2G RDX from New Member Intros so you can hopefully get some better insight.

Good luck and happy motoring!

Thank you!! I just did another search this morning and found a 13 RDX with 32k miles for $19,900 - Carfax says personal lease with one owner. Per reading these RDX threads I see that 13-14 are basically the same?! Test driving each should confirm if there are any of the idling issues I hope. Lower miles sounds nice, since I commute about 100 miles round trip 5 days a week (all highway). I might have more nego power on the 78k '14 however. 19.9 seems like a far deal for the '13 32k. 🤷♀️😬

Just keep in mind that you're pushing a lot more frontal area through the wind and as a result your mileage won't be what you're used to with the smaller cars. Working highway numbers on our 13 RDX (now moved on to my son) and our '17 is 27-28 on very long runs, 25 - 26 if a small amount of local traffic is thrown in. By comparison, my '15 TLX 4-cyl. gets 37 - 39 on long runs, 34 - 35 with a bit of suburban driving thrown in. That aside, any car, including Acuras and Hondas can develop problems but the general history of these cars is very good. Go for the '13 if it's still out there. You'll love it.

The 13 RDX might be the better choice in the long run if you are planning to keep it for +100,000 miles (assuming it is the same trim level as the 14 RDX).

Advantages of the 13 RDX:
- lower mileage, you can still put 100,000-130,000 miles without any major concerns
- you can keep the 13 RDX longer because of the low mileage
- good chance of reduced of high mileage issues like worn suspension parts, replacing rotors, replace alternator/starter/battery, road rash paint, etc...
- Less $$$ for services, there should be semi big service at 30,000 miles already done (6AT & transfer case fluid, engine air & cabin filter, maybe brake flush, etc...). After that, it is just oil changes, maybe one more 6AT change, and tire rotations until the 105,000 miles service. That service can cost around $700-$1500 at the dealership (spark plugs, valve adjustment, power steering, antifreeze, serpentine belt w/ idler, etc...). The +$1000 105K service could be due in the next 12-18 months for the 14 RDX compared to 3-4 years for the 13 RDX.
- should be a little cheaper insurance rates for a 13 RDX compared to a 14 RDX
- might still have the 4/50,000 basic warranty AND 6/70,000 powertrain on the 13 RDX. You have to double-check on this because the 4/50k warranty expires 4 years on the date the 13 RDX was sold (purchased 6/2013, Basic expires on 5/2017 for example).
- if you still have the 4/50,000 basic warranty, you can purchase Acura Care local or on-line

Right now I have a 17 ILX lease (when I was only driving 24mi a day) that gets 32.5 mpg. When I lived in Chicago driving the in the city I was getting 23 if I was lucky...granted there is a lot of traffic there. So I moved to FL and now a lease isn't a good idea. I checked with Acura and if I do a trade there will be no fees etc 🙏🙏. Anyways, bad news is negative equity which makes me glad I found the 13 so it will carry a higher value for longer while I chunk away at double payments 😬 But back to mpg if I can average in the mid to high 20s I don't expect that much of a gas expense difference. I use premium only too.
Both are the same trim fully loaded w/ nav
i was looking at a high mileage MDX last week and saw to ask about the "advanced" type shocks because they can be a pita expensive repair - will the 13 have these same shocks?
*plus the 13 is black on black which i like better than the 14 silver on black*😁

Oh and my 17 has 15k on it so I figure I will have a better trade in experience vs more miles

Only the 07-09 MDX sport and 10-13 MDX Adv had the magnetic suspension that cost around $700-$1000 per corner to repair. The 2nd Gen RDX and 3rd Gen MDX don't have these this type of suspension.

Black on black. It can get a little warm in a Texas or Florida in the summer, a bit more relentless than Chicago. The three RDXs in our family (each son plus us) have black. One is black interior, the other two are parchment. We sure enjoy the cooled seats on our Advance. The '13 is still an awesome car and my son loves it. Plus, in snooty west Austin it's in the same ballpark (to the mother-hens who don't really know the RDX isn't top-of-the-line luxurious) as the Yukon XLs and Audi Q7s in the grade-school pickup lines.

My TLX lease is due in October ant they're trying really hard to get me to buy or lease a NEW Acura. They have nothing I want. No early-lease-end deals on used cars. And the residual in October is way more than the "retail" price of that same car today. So it goes away, sadly. We'll just enjoy the RDX for a while as a single-car family.
