Base vs Tech pkg

I'm considering a 2018 RDX. I test drove the base but mentioned I was considering the Tech pkg. The salesperson stated the only difference was the 2nd screen (which I don't really care about having a nav sys) and 2 more speakers.

I know there are more differences than that! If I don't really care about having a nav sys, is there a good reason to go for the Tech pkg? Are the leather seats nicer? 3 more speakers that much better?

Thanks!

Hey Zuzu,

The first thing you have to do is find another salesperson, someone who knows something about what he/she is selling. Next thing, download the 2018 RDX brochure (unless you snagged one at the dealership) and take a look at the differences yourself. Here's a list of items added to the base package when you get the tech package:

Acura Navigation System10 with 3D view
AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic™ with exclusive street and freeway conditions57
Traffic Rerouting™
On Demand Multi-Use Display™ (ODMD™)
Voice Recognition
Blind spot information (BSI) system
Rear Cross Traffic Monitor
Siri® Eyes Free
AcuraLink® The Next Generation
Sport seats with perforated leather-trimmed interior
8-way power front passenger’s seat
GPS-linked10 climate control
ELS Studio® Premium Audio System with 10 speakers
HD Radio®
Aha™ Compatibility
Song By Voice®

As you can see there's quite a lot more than nav and a couple of speakers and, yes, the ELS Studio audio system makes a HUGE difference. Take your favorite CD to the dealership next time and shovel it into the car's system then crank it up. Also, check out the power seat and bazillion different adjustments. Then, if you wanted to jump another level to the Advanced package you add the following:

Technology and AcuraWatch Plus Packages
Parking sensors (front and rear)
Rain-sensing windshield wipers
Auto dimming side mirrors
Remote engine start with vehicle feedback
Heated and ventilated front seats
18-inch machine finish alloy wheels
Fog lights

Good luck with your choice. Oh, download the brochure here.

Cheers!

Thank you! Yes, I was really surprised when he said that as I'd looked online at the different packages. I thought it was really strange but I didn't call him on it because I was kind of curious what else he would say! Granted, I didn't ask a lot of questions because I'm not seriously looking to buy yet but wanted to test drive the car.

my wife is happy with her 17 base model, less distracting crap to break and our lab likes the pleather rear seat, easy to clean.

I was bummed out that they switched to leatherette on the base model but maybe it's not such a bad thing after all. One Black Lab and one Ten year old and all his friends.

When did they make that switch?

Pretty sure for 2018. I didn't even know until I was checking my local dealer's inventory and I noticed that it listed "leatherette". I immediately headed to the Acura site to confirm. On the plus side, I'll gain rear seat A/C vents and a power lift gate that we don't have in our 2015.
