2016 RDX key fob

Owners manual says you should have a card with key code in case you lose key. Well I looked everywhere and don't have one so contacted my salesman. I am told service obtains info off smart key and transfers that info to another smart key done by Acura service dept at a cost of $227. Now that was the email I got from him so my question is was this already done which I assume that is what he means since if not and I lost the key I would be screwed. I will ask him just wondering if anyone else heard the same thing?

I did not receive a key code card either. Salesman told me not to worry, that they could reproduce a key based on the VIN. I confirmed this with Acura customer service and thorugh a forum search. I think the key code card is mostly a convenience thing. To use your VIN you also must provide proof of ownership. In anycase, it's going to be expensive so I am not going to have duplicates made just to have them.

IF your dealer did the right thing when the vehicle arrived and was checked in and the PDI done, etc, then......Look at your Maintenance Journal...that is part of the "books" in your black holder usually handed to you.....and look at page 1. Top line shows: Model; Year; Color; KEY CODE; Audio/Navi Code; Date.

My key code is written right there. That's the easy way to find it IF...again your dealer did what they are supposed to with that page 1 and fill out all lines and do the TQI.

Other than that...the dealer will have it.

To retrieve your key code I think they have to hook it up to the computer. This way they can charge you a service fee to find your key code.

IF they did not write the code on Page 1 of the Maintenance Journal.....then tell them it was omitted and they will give it to you. They will not charge for their mistake.

There are many things they will do and have to do and not charge you for.

I got a little key code card at delivery. The salesperson put it on a key ring for me and said to put it somewhere safe. If you didn't get one I would pester your salesperson - the word is that some dealerships toss them so they can charge you later. What I didn't get is the radio/nav codes. Dealer says they no longer come with the car.

The card you need to get the codes is the card I (and others) didn't get.
