Was taking a 5hr road trip driving pretty steady stop at a enroute when I came back on the highway passed a car and the check engine light came on couldn't notice a difference until I got off the highway and noticed the shaking. I'm more concerned I might have done some damage for driving an hour while the light was on.

Plug a code reader into your OBDII port (under the dash, driver's side) and check the code. You can purchase them on line for $25 or less (they use an app on your phone to tell you what's wrong) or visit an auto supply store. Many will pull the code for you (free) in hopes of selling you parts. It's the only way to tell what's wrong with modern engines.

Thanks for the idea I'll probably try that out.
after I stopped for about an hour the check engine turned off and the car was driving normslly.

But I will still get it checked out.
