The rain sensing system in my 2016 Advance was functioning more as interval wipers. The sweep was regulated by the sensitivity knob, whether it was raining or not. The dealer replaced the sensor, which is basically an infrared camera looking through the windshield glass at a shallow angle. Skipping a whole bunch of dealer and Acura ineptness (including taking 2 weeks to get the part), replacing the sensor fixed the issue. They also removed my K-Tag installed below the mirror, suspecting that was the problem. The K-Tag is a turnpike pass sticker about the size of a 1" inner tube patch. I was skeptical this was going to fix anything. However, it seems to have resolved an issue with LKAS where the system was positioning the vehicle to the left of center in the lane and occasionally steering it out of the lane to the left.

When operating, the rain sensing system also sweeps the rear wiper 2 or 3 times on interval mode, then quits. I didn't expect this. Can't find anything in the manual that speaks to it. Does anyone know if it's normal?

(Well, I just answered my own question. When the front wipers are operating and the vehicle is in Reverse, the rear wipers operate even when they're turned OFF.)

My auto mode also activate the rear wiper sometime but not all the times. Does this happen to you?

Right. So the auto-sensing just adjusts the speed of the wipers.

Oh, and most Acuras (like most other modern cars with rear wipers) will turn on the rear wiper when you put the cars in reverse and the front wipers are on. This has nothing to do with any auto setting.

The auto wipers turn on automatically when it detects water. Turn it to auto and take a cup of water and splash it near the top centre of the windshield. The wipers react. And you can adjust the sensitivity of the rain detection with the knob. It's a cool feature.

Most (all?) other manufacturers have a separate "auto rain sensing" switch which allows you to still retain the manual intermittent control. A feature apparently missing from the RDX.


That said, auto sensing wipers is nothing new or extraordinarily well implemented in the RDX and most modern cars with rear wipers will turn them on when the front wipers are on and you put the car in reverse. My 2002 S6 had it, as did the GTI and R32. I don't remember if my 98 Yukon had it, but the current iteration has it.

Mine were working more as interval wipers. They'd never shut off. Dealer replaced the rain sensor. There's a whole story just for that involving 3 trips to the dealer and vehicle out of service for 6 days while they klutzed around with it. (Hint: a system reset is needed after the new part is installed. Otherwise, it doesn't work.)

Bottom line: wipers work as intended now. They seem to be too sensitive at times running when the windshield is dry and other times delaying until the windshield is beyond needing a swipe. In general, they sweep more frequently when the rain is heavier and less when it's light. Good for times when the rain is very, very light.

Hey guys I'm new to the acurazine family u guys solved many problems for me already but now I have a problem with my windshield wipers they work but they won't turn off unless I turn the car off completely which is very annoying anyone know what's wrong please let me know thanks

If you have the stalk in the OFF position and they're still running, sounds like a wiring problem. I'd have the dealer look at it.

I have a 2016 RDX Tech with 14,000 km. Rain Sensing wipers appear to be working fine. When it begins to rain they come on and when it stops so do the wipers (after a couple of extra swipes.) Now, I also read that if I have my headlights on "Auto", when the Rain Sensing wipers come it they will also cause the headlights to come on. I have never tested this to see if this is the case, but I suppose I can hose it down one day with the vehicle running and see if wipers and headlights both automaticly come on.

Yes, the headlights come on after 20-30 seconds if the wipers have continued to run that long.

You don't have to run a special test or get out of the car to see if the head light is on. Next time when the rain sensing wipers come on the dash board will show the green head light confirming the head light is on.

Just thought I'd add that my new brand new RDX Advnace has the same issue with the auto wipers. They will only swipe in auto if I adjust the intermittant dial. Otherwise they do not swipe ever in auto. Kind of annoying since low and high are too d=fast for my taste. The dealer is looking at it tomorrow.

The dealer fixed the problem for my car- the sensor was not properly hooked up.
