Question VCM Question!?

Hello,

This is my first post so I introduce myself my name is Alex and I have a RDX 2014 AWD Base.

I would like to know more about the VCM. It's about vibration.

This is not dramatic, only I would like to be sure that it is really the VCM that is involved. I have seen a service bulletin on a couple converter problem that is vibrating and I would like to be sure that my problem is not the.

So with the RDX it is impossible to see if the VCM is active, there is no eco light as with honda.

When I am driving at a steady speed, I see my consumption consume enormously, I imagine that is what the VCM activates. The vibration comes when the engine starts to force a little, the steering wheel vibrates and I feel a little bit in the seats.

How to know if it's the VCM or a bad torq converter?

Thank you all!

One last little thing, I feel the more feel it when it's cold! ... is it normal?

Alex

This is my take on the VCM for RDX. 2013-2015 models are 6-4-3 cylinders. For 2016+ its only 6-3 cylinders. Also, Acura improved the smoothness for the 2016+ models. With that said, I find it virtually unnoticeable in my 2016. You mention something else about when it’s cold you feel a jerkiness. I feel that too but I think that’s a tranny thing not VCM and goes away real quick after two or three minutes of driving. It’s almost like the tranny shifts like a DCT for a really short period of time. Not an issue with me. And thank God they didn’t put the POS 9-speed in the current RDX. This 6-speed is a really good tranny.

VCM is only meant to turn on when your engine is at full operating temperature and you are cruising (not accelerating). So my guess is if you're feeling it when accelerating (the jerkyness) and when the engine/transmission is still cold then I would assume it's the transmission.

I think VCM might also engage when idling, I use to notice the vibration in my 2013 RDX when it would idle at a stop light, don't notice any of this in my 2017 RDX.

Hello,

Thank you for answering me, I find little information.

In fact, I expressed myself badly, sorry for my bad English.

My vibration is when the engine is at full working temperature. I only said that I had the impression to feel it more when it was cold outside.

I feel the vibration when the engine begins to force a little, as soon as I press slightly on the accelerator or that I completely remove the foot of the accelerator.

If I press the accelerator more pronounced, the vibrations disappear completely.

Thank you

I most definitely notice the VCM on the highway when cruising in my '16. I can feel the engine switch modes. It is a bit disconcerting at times. Fortunately, it doesn't affect power when you need to move quickly.

This is a difficult thing to diagnose as I too feel unusual motions from the RDX when doing several things like heavy on the gas and then letting off and coasting and there’ll be a “bump” like a shift down. I really can’t say I feel the VCM. I think it’s mostly the tranny doing it’s stuff is what we’re feeling.

I have a 2017 RDX that I got last May and I now have just over 14,000 miles on it. I've never noticed a thing in relation to this. The transition is seamless in mine at least.

Hi, I just purchased a new 2017 RDX Elite (canada model) and I also own a '05 Odyssey. On the Ody, there is an ECO light to let me know when VCM is active.

For the 2017 RDX is there such a light, or way to know if you are in ECO mode or not ?
