Tow Hitch Steel Type vs RDX Steel Type and Galvanic Corrosion

Hi All,

In installing the tow hitch on my 2016 RDX, I was pondering if I need to put some type of lining between the hitch mounting part and the car frame to avoid Galvanic corrosion.

Galvanic corrosion is a form of electrochemical corrosion that occurs when two dissimilar metals come together in the presence of an electrolyte to form an electrical couple, known as a galvanic couple. ... Weld metal may also be anodic to the base metal, creating a corrosion cell when immersed.

Your input is appreciated.

No. You would not be able to get a correct torque on the bolts if you did that.

The issue of corrosion.............you would not see anything like that in your lifetime. The end of the hitch will rust when the powder coating chips away from the ball mount moving.
