Temperature Issues

Temperature Issues
I recently bought a 2015 RDX. I'm concerned that the temperature gauge is not accurate. It's typically off by 2-8 degrees. I'm using my phone's weather app as well as local radio station to get accurate temp. Solutions?

Mine gets more accurate after after a few miles. Close but not spot on. Kinda like the overly-optimistic fuel mileage indicator, consistently 1 to 2 mpg overstating actual mileage. I just use both readings as "ballpark" and don't pay a lot of attention to them.

Rebecca,
Temperature can vary quite a bit depending where you live. Typically the 'official' temperature is taken at a nearby airport (where nobody actually lives) and the radio station may be in a heat soaked downtown area. You'd be better served by checking a thermometer where your car is parked (garage/driveway) and adjusting from there. The display might not be as far off as you think.
Cheers!

From the owners manual.....
The temperature sensor is in the front bumper.
Road heat and exhaust from another vehicle can
affect the temperature reading when your vehicle
speed is less than 19 mph (30 km/h).
It may take several minutes for the display to be
updated after the temperature reading has stabilized.
Use the multi-information display’s customized
features to correct the temperature.
This is saying that the sensor can pick up heat from many sources including the engine itself, or heat rising from black asphalt on a sunny day. The only accurate reading will be obtained when the speed is higher than 19 MPH so that the airflow across the sensor minimizes the effect of the other sources. I have also noticed that when taking my RDX from the garage into sub-zero temperatures, that the indicator only updates about once per minute, and it can take several minutes before it reaches the actual outdoor air temperature.
Also note the reference saying that a correction factor can be made to the sensor using the MID.
