Sport Running Boards...worth it?

Sport Running Boards...worth it?
Wife drives a '14 MDX with Advance running boards, in retrospect I think they are annoying and not deep enough to really function well...but admittedly they add to the aesthetic of the car.
I've been debating on whether to get the sport running boards on my '16 RDX Advance. My reason to get them is the instep doesn't stick out in the front so annoying dirt marks on pants yet can help rear passengers ingress. I do feel the RDX looks better with the boards but, alas, spending the $500ish for the boards plus the install is yet another expense. And I'm not yet convinced the $700 or so is worth the aesthetic upgrade.
For those of you who have the sport boards, looking back would you get it installed again? Has it been functional for you or is it mainly an aesthetic upgrade now? TIA

You are correct on the Advance running boards. Collect snow/slush in the winter, and get on yours pants when you get out. The Sport running boards are totally useless, except for aesthetics. A lot of money for aesthetics. The car is really not that high off the ground that it warrants "step on" running boards. This is not an Escalade.
Do the Advance running boards reduce your ground clearance?

I personally dont think it is worth it unless you are carrying passengers who have trouble climbing the height (e.g., kids or grandparents who will require assistance in climbing the height). Personally I don't think it adds to the aesthetic to the car. It makes cleaning the undercarriage an issue as snow and ice have a tendency to form there; in addition it's an extra piece of weight you have to carry around the car 24/7. A stepping stool works better as the running boards are too narrow for a person to use it as a step.
Save the money for something else.

I have debated this for awhile now and I am leaning towards the advance running boards of none at all. The sport running boards don't look like they fit well since the don't extended the full length. You could avoid dirty pants by stepping on the running board to get out. For now, I'm waiting. Rather use the funds towards wheels.

As many have said, I would use the $ on something else such as snow tires or better rims.

Everyone has their own pet fetish. As mentioned already the running boards are functionally meant for those who find it difficult to climb up into the car. If you love the look of running boards...then go for it. Others would spend that money on wheels, tires, roof racks, lighting,.. or some other mods. Why should that bother you? Use your money for what you love to do....and post pictures here .

I love my running boards. I got them for the kids and didn't even realize it was only for the rears, but makes sense that only kids would get into the back. (although I do use them for wiping the roof dry after a wash) I think they look pretty cool how it's not the full length - kind of looks like a body kit.

I'm not worried about build up of snow and dirt. I'm a detailer but my cars stay clean. Really depends on your area. I'm in Seattle so snow isn't really a huge deal though we get it sometimes. Money isn't the issue either and I have already bought just about everything else I wanted. Lighting, subs, tint, etc. only parts left for me is cross bars, wheels and running boards if I go that route.
Running boards would help with cleaning the roof or even strapping a load down seeing I'm on 5'6", 5'7" on a good day. I'll wait to see other's pictures until I make up my mind. I'm in no rush. I like that the advance boards do extend the full length and they are chrome/black. Looks more classy as well. Just my $.02.

If you like the look of the chrome offset on the bottom of the car, consider the chrome door trim pieces rather than the running boards. The are new for '16, but will work all the way back thru the '13 models. They add a bit of contrast, and while not functional like running boards, don't act as "slush grabbers" during the winter.

I just installed my set last night. I like the way it looks in person and it's functional for us since we are short and we have a baby that we need to load in the back.
