Hello RDX forum! My mom just bought a certified pre owned 2016 Acura RDX advanced AWD. After purchase she asked to see the paperwork on what they did to make it a CPO and noticed they replaced one tire. I’ve always been told to replace two or all 4 (pending wear), but not sure how that applies to an awd vehicle. She had her tires check and has 3 tires at 6/32 tread and 1 new tire at 10/32.

Is this something to be concerned about? Was it a shady move by the dealer to replace a single tire? I personally would expect better from an Acura dealership on a CPO but maybe I’m just being picky. If it is shady, what do you recommend for a course of action with the dealership?

I would not be concerned,as long as they are all the same brand and tread type.I bought My RDX with 4/32 tread,Which I consider time to replace.They said They don't replace at 4/32.I bought 4 new tires,for peace of mind,not from this Dealer.

Where sophisticated AWD systems are concerned, 4/32" difference is a no-no. Maybe it's not an issue on the RDX's rudimentary system, but I'd check the manual to see if there are any warnings. Even if not, I'd at least request the other tire on that axle be replaced.

You do have the option of shaving the new tire, too. But given the tread depths, I'd just try to get the dealer to work with you on replacing the other three at a reduced price.

Acura has a lot of issues with their dealers as it pertains to their CPO programs. Any service that is passed due or within 3 months of needing to be performed needs to be done at dealer expense as part of the CPO process. I like Acura and Honda products very much but you have to get all the service records for any used car and especially a CPO vehicle to make sure you not only get what you paid for but that all service and maintenance is done properly to ensure you are in compliance and covered for any warranty issues. If your vehicle has AWD, the rear differential fluid needs to be changed at 15k. If the car had nearly 15k or more than, the dealer should have changed the fluid. As far as tires, changing one is OK if the other tires have a few thousand miles on them. I see CarFax reports showing one tire changed when the car has 15K miles on it which is not acceptable as the difference in tread depth is too great. Get yourself a tread depth gauge as it only costs a few bucks. Its a great safety tool and makes for interesting negotiations when buying a used vehicle. Very often, the dealer will try to take tires with life left on them off of another lease turn in they are not keeping and swap them onto a vehicle on their lot, Dealers will do anything and everything to save a buck. Your best bet is to know your vehicle inside and out in terms of service intervals, TSBs and proper parts and fluids. A good independent mechanic can be a very helpful thing. While selling a new vehicle isn't typically highly profitable, dealers make an inordinate amount of money in their service departments.

I would call Acura corporate to raise your concerns and follow up with a written registered letter stating tthe same. That dealership is shady as hell and needs to be held accountable. Good luck.

Making a mountain out of a mole hill IMHO.
Replacement of 1 tire with 1/8" more tread isn't going to cause a problem and if a tire is damaged many will replace just one.

I disagree. It's a legitimate concern. There's a reason it's addressed in the owners manual, and why tire manufacturers don't recommend mixing tires. 1/8" tread depth = 1/4" diameter = 3/4" circumference. That's not insignificant at all.

I work at a dealer in SoCal. Im not 100% but I believe they should have replaced 2 tires, I know my dealership service department would look for any reason to add more cost to a CPO to bill the sales department. I would call the dealership and mention your concerned and ask for them to take care of it
