Reverse Camera issue
3 Attachment(s)
I have had no particular problems with the reversing camera so far. Today when I started reversing the car I noticed that the camera appeared blurry. Usually it clears it after I wipe the camera lens with hand / any cloth. But this time, no avail. The camera lens appeared clean already, and I've been rubbing the heck out of it with all sorts of cloths. Still the picture is unbelievably poor. I asked my wife who is the daily driver and she attributed the poor picture to the recent bad weather and apparently didn't pay any attention. But it has never been this bad and I believe it just got bad in the last week or so since I drive it in weekends and usually notice such things and clear it immediately.
Has anyone got any idea, what might have contributed to this picture. Is it hardware related or software glitch, or some super slimy invisible coating on the lens... :D? I understand that the RDX camera is not great during night time, but its not any better in the day this time. I will get a better picture tomorrow in daylight also. Thanks in advance. |
From what I can tell reading peoples' experiences with other vehicles, it's going t take a camera replacement to fix it.

Get it in under warranty. Those cameras aren't cheap.

I really haven't checked to see if the back up cam has a cover or that is the actual lens? Maybe cover has condensation or road salts/debris between the lens and cover?
|
It’s actually 58k miles. So I guess the warranty is well over. Is there any point in rushing now? As I mentioned the next service would be soon since oil life is 30% My closest dealer is nearly 40 miles away and doesn’t work on weekends. :(. |
Just reviving this old thread. My back up camera issue isn't resolved yet. It is pretty clear and normal on sunny days, but whenever it rains or weather is really cold, the picture gets blurry and stays like that for a few days. I had reported it during last service visit and they couldn't find anything wrong since it was sunny and warm on the day of service visit (of course) but also suggested a replacement if it happens in future. Now my wife is complaining bitterly about it (she's the daily driver) and I'm thinking that I should get it replaced during this upcoming service visit. I didn't get a price on the replacement, has anyone got an idea how much is it likely to cost (parts and labor)?

Inexpensive backup camera fix 2015 RDX
The backup camera is expensive from $150 to $200 online. I found this camera on ebay which had a slightly different serial number on it but looked identical to the part and made for a Honda. It ended up working perfectly. It was only $28 and fairly easy to install in about 15 minutes. It worked great on my 2015 Acura RDX after condensation got underneath the lense and it stayed blurry. It's back to new again. I thought about buying another just in case this one ends up with the same issue again down the road. For $28 why not! https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F263753191834 |

Has anyone else tried out that CRV camera from eBay? The wife's car has condensation in the camera, and now I think dirt/dust/salt, and it's basically useless. I was looking at getting a replacement, but if I can get one for $30 versus ~$220, I'd much prefer that.

So, I decided to pull the camera out of the lift gate after getting home tonight since my wife was home early. First, it's a real PITA to take out. It is clipped in quite securely, the pigtail cable is clipped into the rear hatch as well, and there isn't much room to work through the access hatch. You also need to remove the black plastic trim piece on the exterior, or at least mostly remove it as I couldn't get it out fully, but enough that I could get the camera out. The $30 module should work from what I can see. I've attached pictures of the entire assembly for reference so others can see as well. It should just be a matter of pulling the camera out, unscrewing it from the plastic housing and unscrewing the pigtail, then putting it back together.
The only unfortunate part, and my recommendation for anyone attempting this, don't do it when it is cold out. The clip that holds the assembly in cracked slightly getting the camera out, and broke off entirely trying to get it back in. I couldn't get it to snap back into place, regardless of how hard I tried. Not sure if it was due to the cold or what as it was difficult to see and trying to get it in by feel also didn't work out too well. Also note that the green gasket should be on the pigtail connection, but it stuck onto the camera module when I disconnected it at first. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...276f16f8ae.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...5305e43c3d.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...f1541f172e.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...d4a2b5d26a.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...54918d3600.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...ac84f78dce.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...450a819a58.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...6ecaf2e169.jpg |

Water gets inside from a car wash/ high pressure spray wand or driving under water after a hurricane. Easy fix if you dont mind taking it all apart, but it would be challenging to most non technically adept folk.

I had the same problem. I just found out you can order the camera through amazon or ebay part number 39530T0AA11M1. It will give you all the three views but I notice on the close up view its too zoomed for the safety lines. Other than that it works perfect on the other two. Just as you pop the camera out to open it you just replace it with that part number.
