RDX 2013 paint peeling
Hi Everyone!
I got a RDX 2013 CPO last year. While cleaning the car, I noticed that the paint is peeling off along the edge on one side of the roof. (Pic: https://ibb.co/nyksBe) Did any one experience this problem? Dealer says it wont be covered in any warranty. Any suggestions if it can be fixed myself? Pic Link: https://ibb.co/nyksBe Thanks! |
When I was looking at used RDXs back in Jan/Feb of this year...without exception, every single one of the half-dozen to ten RDXs I looked at had the paint chipped / peeled in this area. Some were much worse than others. The 13 RDX I wound up buying has the issue...just not as bad as some of the others I looked at.

i wonder what would be the cause.... the hatch rubbing on the roof paint?? anyways, depending on color.. maybe DIY plastidip?

what the what :what: i'm surprised they didn't offer to cover that... Try writing into Acura Customer Service

Thanks for the suggestion. Will do.

(For those visiting this thread in future)
I contacted Acura Customer Care. Since my CPO vehicle completed the warranty period, they said they can not help even if it could be a manufacturing defect. I am going to try cleaning & re-painting myself. |
That seems to me like it was never washed or waxed.

Mine is doing the exact same thing. I purchased it CPO 3 years ago and the paint in that area just gets worse and worse. Washed almost every week. Hmmm.
|
Yep. Mine has the same issue. Much smaller area just right of center seen when the rear hatch is open. I rubbed the loose paint off and used touch up paint to cover it. Yet another example of the crappy workmanship Acura employs on the RDX. The only saving grace on this issue is it is not visible when the hatch is closed. I wonder about rust as the car ages. I have owned my car since new. It has been garaged and meticulously maintained so it isn't an abuse issue.

Didn't have a problem with my '16 but I didn't have it long. My '18 I plan to keep for quite a while. Looks like I'll be detailing that area with sealant/wax often to see if that helps.
Is it only on the early models? |

Is it only on the early models? This thread details an issue I noticed on my 2013 RDX Tech, namely that the power liftgate opens and closes automatically using the key fob, opens and closes automatically using the dash button, closes automatically using the button above the rear license place, but does not open automatically using that button. That button merely unlocks it, at which point you have to pull it open manually until the supports engage. Someone indicated that this is how it's intended to work, and that this was a quirk of the 2013-2015 models. I remain unconvinced. Seems like such a counter-intuitive "feature" that the liftgate (which is, after all, powered), would not lift automatically with the touch of that button, but does so when activated using the fob or dash button. Can any other 2013 RDX owners confirm that the liftgate opening is not powered when opened using the button above the license plate (but the lowering *is* powered)? I just want to know if it's broken or configured wrong somehow. Thanks! |
I use 2013 RDX with Tech Package. Button behind the plate just unlocks the car. It will not open automatically. I have to pull up manually half way and rest goes up.
|
That's the way my 2014 works.
|
Thanks; maybe it is a quirk of the 2013-2015 models after all; I guess I'm just relieved that it's not broken...
