OEM Floormats
 

Switched over to WeatherTechs for the season. When I pulled out the OEMs I noticed the driver side had already worn visibly, especially where my heel would rest. Seems a bit much for only about 2,000 miles.

Ours were the same after just a few miles as well. The RDX OEM floor mats are the flimsiest if any car I've ever had. They're nowhere near as thick/plush/sturdy as the ones I had in my '03 CL-S. We bought WeatherTech for the RDX and just leave them in year-round.

Yes, the OEM mats do not hold up well. They should have put a rubber patch where your heel rests. That would hold up better than the carpet material. When you decide to change the mats, I have had good luck with Lloyd's Mats: Custom Fit Car Truck & SUV Floor Mats All Weather and Custom Mats

My wife did not like the light beige mats that came with her new car and felt they would get dirty very easily. Lloyd's Mats has a great selection of piles, and many colors to choose from. They sent out samples of the carpeting, and we went with a dark brown for the replacement front mats.

I assume you guys are talking about the OEM carpet mats. The OEM all weather rubber mats are as good as weathertec if not better. I like the "RDX" badging on it as well.
BTW my OEM carpet mats are resting underneath by bed since the first week of ownership. The future owner of this car (whenever I decide to sell it) would see a brand new carpet mat while examining the car :D.

WeatherTechs are far superior quality, fit, and material-wise. Compare them side by side and see for yourself. My OEMs are now stored in the WT box and likely will stay there.

I haven't had an opportunity to see them side by side and therefore I believe you.

I just put WeatherTech in and they look much more durable than the OEM mats. Mine were also getting the heel wear after only a few months.

It really sounds like a lot of people are comparing WeatherTech to the OEM **carpet** mats, which I believe come with the car, rather than the OEM all-season mats, which are an additional cost. The OEM carpet mats are horrible, but the OEM all-season mats are very sturdy.

I agree they are cheap but in 03 they did not come with the car like they do now. Likely the reason for the quality.

My point exactly but I imagine what "dirleton" has compared were rubber mats and not OEM carpet to weathertec. I hope it's true.

I was grousing about the OEM mats that come with the car. I also stated that WeatherTech all season mats are superior to OEM all seasons IMHO.

I like the rubber texture of OEM all season floor mat, WeatherTech feels like soft plastic.

Yes I was comparing to OEM carpet mats. They are worn extremely fast

I have the OEM rubber mat's and they are very deep and fit like a glove. No complaints here.

One thing I really like is the OEM all weather mat for the rear. One big piece that just stays put.

I'm pretty sure they did come with the car. If I get a chance, I'll see if I still have the sticker in a folder somewhere. I definitely did not buy them as accessories, but I suppose it's possible the dealer already had them in the car.

They are standard, and come with the car. In 02 when I bought my TL you had to buy them on top of the purchase price.

As I was picking up my 2016 RDX from warranty work, the salesman give me a set of used OEM winter mats plus cargo tray from a 3-year lease return. All I wanted was the cargo tray but I accepted the whole set.

The driver mat RDX logo has a missing letter that created a hole. This is a very poor design where the letters go right through the mat. The part where the heel rests wore down very badly. The rubber on one side is cracking up due to corrosion or rubber drying up. I am happy that the other mats and cargo tray are in reasonable shape.

To make it work, I cut the rest of the letters out on the driver mat and glued a piece of rubber to seal the hole. It is not very noticeable given that the repair patch is black on black. I hope that will work. For a 15 min job I am saving $400.

If that doesn’t work I will buy a set of Weathertech front mats for $170.

Given what I have seen with the OEM quality I would recommend anyone to stay away from them.

A nice new car deserves nice new WeatherTechs.

I see a lot of threads condemning the 2nd Gen OEM mats, but mine still look new after 20k miles. Guess I just luckily got a good set made.

The Acura dealer use in Portland always adds the rubber mats throughout the car as part of its 'Northwest' package. And yes--the additional cost is baked in as an accessory. I guess you could negotiate the mats away but I like them. When I buy a car that only has carpet mats my first chore when I get home is to order Weathertechs. But the Acura rubber/plastic mats are nice imho.

Weather tech and Husky liners are both highly recommended.

No different than fabric protection or pinstripes, grievously overpriced add-ons forced upon you as "value added". Those Portland dealers are all in cahoots. They should be in jail.

Weather tech floor liners order when you buy car . They arrive in about a week. Acura mats worthless save your money.

I have recently bought weathertech "floor liners" for my other cars. They are very thin and plasticky. They slide on the carpet too much. No anti-slide coating on the bottom. Only good part is that they are very well mounded to the shape of floor. I believe the weather "mats"(not floor liners) are better quality but may not cover the area fully. I have no problem using the Acura OEM mats. They are very functional and robust. They cover the area fully and have a 2" lip all around to contain spilled fluids. Take your pick.

My OEM carpet mats look and feel almost new too. One theory I have is that mats are like wine vintages; some years are good, some years are bad. The other theory is that we drive while wearing sneakers while the other guys drive with cowboy boots and spurs. :tomato:

I have both the OEM winter mats and the WeatherTech. There is no comparison. The WeatherTech covers the carpet below the gas pedal the OEM doesn't. The Weathertech covers the left foot rest and the OEM doesn't. The WeatherTech has a solid side on the left of the drivers mat which the OEM does not have...the OEM quickly buckles away from the side of the vehicle/door sill.


The WeatherTech can easily be removed without water spilling from snow/ice melting due to having high sides (gas pedal & foot rest) which the OEM does not.


Simply put I started with the OEMs and was so ticked at the failings I bought the WeatherTech fronts for my '15 RDX.


It is a very simple comparison and all you need to do is check out the pictures of both the WeatherTech and the OEM.


Front seat area only...as I didn't bother to replace the back seat OEM rubber mats.

Wow what a difference in fit, cleanability, and look. Even my wife noticed the diff. The old OEM rubber mats entry sides that were way too high and you had to lift feet much higher to not catch side. After a few years the side were leaning inward and looked very sloppy and not up the Acura normal quality. I have seen pics of the 2019 RDX OEM mats and they finally woke up and make some WeatherTech-looking mats.

I was using the oem all-weather mats for the first 2 years of having the rdx. I had both front and rears.
I recently picked up a used set of the weathertechs to see what the fuss was about since i've never owned weathertechs before.

The weathertech front liners are better in terms of coverage. There's more coverage around the dead pedal, underneath the gas pedal and the mat goes further up into the footwell.
Where the oem mats are better is the rear mat. Much better coverage along the side walls and around the centre console. The oem mats also go further under the seat to protect the carpet from ppl with longer legs and need to slide their feet further under the chair.
I also prefer the feel over the oem since its more of a rubber rather than the hard plastic feel of the weathertechs.

Overall, I do prefer the weathertechs but only because i got such a good deal on them. If I had to pay retail for them, I'd still be using the free oem mats that I received

I find WT Floorliners to be too truck-like and stiff. I like the OEMs for the heavier weight and feel. I also like the RDX script. If I would go aftermarket, I'd go with 3D Maxpiders as I did with my cargo mat.

Although I've had Weather Tech in several vehicles in the past, I went with OEM rubber mats in my '18 RDX because I liked the looks and the fit. I've always had good service from Weather Tech products but I believe the OEM all weather mats are easily as good and might be better.
