Mileage calculation that far off?

Recently had some service on my 2015 RDX and used the dealer loaner 2018. I liked the smoother ride and increased quietness vs my model so may look at upgrading, but...

When I picked up the loaner, the estimated mpg said 5.6 and the gas gauge was at 5/8ths. I drove in a conservative matter for 18 miles and the estimated mpg read 20.5. The gas gauge dropped two lines (two 16ths). I figured I used 1 gallon.

Put a gallon in to return to dealer at same gas level but the gauge only rose one 16th. Hard to figure...Did this vehicle only get 9 miles per gallon?

Thx

Anyone have any thoughts or was there too much math?

Bottom line- drove 18 miles with computer calculating that I used less than a gallon (achieved 20+ mpg) in reality there were two gallons consumed (and therefore only got 9 mpg)?

I drive my '17 RDX conservatively, always aiming to achieve 27+ mpg's.
You give me a loaner RDX, that sucker will be lucky to get 5 mpg!
I think your sample size is too small. And using the gas gauge to gauge usage will not be very accurate.
Quite the considerate chap pumping some gas in it. :p
