My wives 2015 RDX has 45000 miles on it with lots of those miles on interstates. The maintenance minder has never shown anything but an A1 code for oil change and tire rotation so that's what I have done even though the dealer tries to sell me more service. Ive change air and cabin filters myself as needed. The dealer insists that trans and front and rear differentials need service. Is the dealer or the cars computer right?

Transmission and transfer case and rear differential codes are usually seen by 30,000 miles.

Unless you are doing a lot of towing with those hwy miles, I would stick with the M.I.D. schedule for service. Depending on how you drive, those code can take 30k/60K/90K before showing up. The only issue (problem) that might have happen could be someone might have saw the M.I.D. code for an oil change and didn't realize the additional code for the other fluids and just changed the oil and reset the M.I.D. at 30K?

Do you do all your service at Acura?

Yes all the service has been done at Acura and I have been aware of all codes it has ever shown and understand what they mean. Never anything but A1. No towing or abuse. This was our family car and daily driver. It's just that I have noticed on the forums that other members have shown codes for trans and diff at much lower miles than I have on mine. I looked at all my receipts last night but it doesn't appear that the codes are listed just the work done and if there is a way to access them from the car I wouldn't know how to get to them.

There's something I don't understand about the recommendations for frequent transmission fluid changes made by several posters. My 2018 owner's manual says to follow the maintenance minder except that severe use such as trailer towing, etc will require "more frequent" changes. The manual defines "more frequent" than normal as 60,000 miles for the first fluid change and each 30,000 miles thereafter. This seems to be contrary to several remarks in this thread which suggest that the fluid is overdue for changing at 45,000 miles. What am I missing here? Are the 2018 recommendations the same as for earlier years?

The transmission fluid is to be changed every 30k from everything I have read/heard (there is a TSB about this too- see "judder"). I am at a loss as to how all you have seen is A1 as our '16 with 48k has gone through the whole series already(also with a lot of highway miles). The only thing different on ours is the oil changes have been less frequent with the highway driving (8-9k intervals vs. in city driving which will usually be around 6k).

Okay that sounds reasonable, but it conflicts with the maintenance instructions in the owner's manual. I've looked at the '15, '16, and '18 manuals and none of them mention 30,000 miles except that the '18 manual specifies 30,000 for the second fluid change (after the first is done at 60,000) on vehicles used in severe service. I'm still looking for an Acura document that recommends changing the fluid at 30,000. The two TSBs on transmission "judder" only recommend a fluid change (regardless of mileage) if a software update failed to correct the problem.

I have a question about a different kind of maintenance minder- a mailing from the dealer saying service is due.

Our 2018 Advance AWD was purchased at the end of February of this year. The dealer's mailing came after 6 months of ownership. I read through the owner's manual and it looks like the vehicle will notify us when service is due, service is not based on fixed periods of time or mileage. We have less than 4,000 miles on the vehicle and no problems to date.

I'm wondering if the dealer mailing was based only on us owning our RDX 6 months and not any particular service need.
