Do HIDs/Xenon headlights make that much of a difference?
I've never been in a car with the HID lights. Do they make that much of a difference. HIDs and the power tailgate would really be the only reason I'd consider upgrading to Tech from Base. Over a 60month lease it doesn't add that much more to the payment. Just wondering if they make that much of a difference to the standard lights. And if anyone thinks they may be standard on the 2014s?

I got the RDX Tech last week, my first with HID lights. So far, all I can say is that their light looks a lot whiter & brighter--don't know if that is really increased brightness or a perception due to the whiteness of the light. It also appears to be a broader beam. I hope I'm not blinding anyone, I always hated facing into someone else's HID lights when they first came out.
I'm most impressed with the ELS Surround sound, make sure you listen to the demo DVD when you take a test drive. Unfortunately the required DVD-A is a "dead format" now, although a limited selection of discs from 2001-3 are still available at Best Buy and Amazon. It's still a great sounding stereo when I hook up my iPod Touch, which is really easy to control through the "Music Search" feature..
I thought I would really like the Weather Radar function, but the closest scale is limited to 50 miles, and (so far) I haven't found it that useful.

Yes. I will never buy a car without them as I have had them in my cars for the past 7 years.
Now that you have them wait until you get into a car that does not and you drive on a very dark road. You will be wondering if your lights are even on.

I am always amazed on the highway how far the HIDs shines down the road to illuminate signs. I’m not talking about the normal sharp cut off in front of your vehicle. I've notice on the hwy the overhead and exit signs are illuminated about 4-5 times further away on both sides of the hwy compared to old style. It makes the signs look like they are backlit for better visibility.
I've thought it was from the headlights of the vehicles in front of me and didn't pay much attention. I notice when I hit a dip in the road, the light would dip also from 1/8 to 1/4 mile away and I now sometimes see the shadow of the car down the road in front of between me and the overhead sign.
HIDs fall in the category like kids, pets, or microwave: if you never had it, you don’t need it; BUT, as soon as you have it, you can’t live without it. I will never own a vehicle without HIDs.

The difference is like night & day -- literally. I upgraded my 2008 Civic halogens to HIDs, and the improvement is amazing. Now, when I drive my wife's Camry with projector beam halogens, I don't know how I got by with halogens. Once you have HIDs, there's no going back. They're also much safer due to the increased illumination.

I have HIDs on my TL. I don't see enough functional difference between them and the halogen's on our base RDX to justify the nearly $4K price difference to pay for NAV and other options (ELS is nice but the base audio is decent) that don't hold enough value to justify the added cost nor needed for my ego. Would I pay a reasonable extra fee just for HIDs? Probably.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE HID's, but to Doug's point, I couldn't justify spending an additional $40-$50/mo on them w/the tech. package. The halogen projectors are actually fine, though. The only thing that I don't understand is my father's 2001 TL which was 29K at the time had them standard, why doesn't a 35K 2013 Acura? It was standard on the 2012, and the price increased like $1500 over LY model...WTF? Anyway, I could always get them aftermarket if I really want them.
