Creaking in rear suspension/shocks?
Hey All,
I have seen a ton of the threads around the thump in cold weather form the bad shock absorbers but I am not sure my issue is the same problem. When going at low speeds (10-30) miles an hour you can kind of hear a light grinding/rapid creaking noise from the rear drivers side wheel. If I park the car and have someone push the car up and down you can hear a distinct creaking from the rear well.
Is that still a shock absorber issue or the shocks themsleves? If I replace one side do I need to do the other as well?
Thanks!

It might be the sway bar links and they are easy to replace at 15 minutes a side. They can creak and knock.
They should look like this.

IF that is what the problem is, I would and I always have since I perform my own maintenance and do not have the time to do things twice.
On my last car, the fronts lasted less than 40K kms or about 24 K miles. On other cars, the rears lasted about 80K kms or 50 K miles.

Thanks man. Out of curiosity how do you end up finding instructions on doing some of the more complicated things for your car? I have a mustang as well that I just picked up haynes repair manual for but Acura doesn't seem to have anything at all like that available.

I'll also drop in to the thread stating I have a similar squeak. Passenger Rear tire well. You can hear it just by hoping in the trunk area and pushing down. I to was suspecting something sway-bar related be it bushings or end links.
car has 110k miles on it now, so frankly the shocks in the rear/front are also quite possibly cooked too. But only options out there for shocks are OE fronts and some KYB rears i think (for like $88 each, not sure how great they are vs OEM rears tho).

I was hearing a similar noise and stumbled upon a thread here which pointed me to the rear seat latches. The latching teeth on the rear seat and latch post squeak like crazy during slow speed oscillation over any kind of uneven surface. A simple test is to fold your rear seats down and see if the noise goes away. In my case it did. A few members on this forum recommended wrapping the latch post with electrical tape which will dampen the "metal-on-metal" noise when the rear seat is up. Hope this helps!
