Anemic seat heaters

As the title says, I find the heated seats to be inadequate in really cold weather. It takes about 15-20 minuets to heat the seats (by which time you don’t really need the heated seats anymore). My other cars heat up within a few minutes. Does anyone else with RDX has a problem or seat heaters are simply malfunctioning? After it heats up it is fine it’s simply the huge time delay in getting the heat coming in super cold weather which makes it practically useless. Thanks

I had the same thoughts. I was beginning to wonder if the seat was plugged in. Anemic heat and anemic cooling. The passenger side is very quick to heat and cool. I’ll ask at my next oil change.

Thanks for your input. Sometimes I feel cloth seats are better. . I will get it checked out during next service visit. Cheers.

First time really taking advantage of the seat heaters was this week as it has been unusually cold (at or below freezing) for the better part of a week. Mine are in business within 5 minutes of turning them on. 15+ minutes just sounds wrong for the warm-up time, though I know WV was a good bit colder than SC this week too.

Mine don't take that long. Typically 5 minutes on high, which is still too long. They eventually get too damned hot and have to be turned down to the first level. An even balance somewhere in between would be nice. As it is, they're almost a waste of time. It would be nice if they'd come on when remote starting so the seats would be ready by the time you got there. The cooling is quicker - within 20 seconds or so.

I have a 2016 RDX Advance and I think the heated/cooled seats work fantastic. Three level heating/cooling. Been using the heated seats a lot recently with the extreme cold. I put them on high and within 3 minutes I gotta turn them down to level two or level one they're that good.

Might be worth checking the fuse. I thought mine were dead (the light came on but no heat) but turns out the fuse was fried. Put in a new one and now my 2013 gets good heat in about 5 to 8 minutes.

Do the rdx heated seats include the seat backs?
My little Honda has heat on the seat backs but I cannot feel anything on the rdx.

Yes, they include the back. It may be wired separately though.

Okay guys. Here’s an update. I feel that may be I didn’t fully communicate my issue well enough. In the last few days I tried several ways and found that when I SIT in the front seats the heating takes about 5 minutes as you guys suggested, but when I try it on after leaving the car (keeping it running with the seat heater button on), hoping that the car and seats will warm itself before I enter, then it takes longer time. Can anyone verify that? Does the heated seats works only if it senses that someone is actually sitting there? Thanks.

I think you're onto something. I noticed the same thing just yesterday. I don't pre-start the car much when it's in the garage. I've been doing it lately due to the unusual cold (for Wichita) we've been having. After running for several minutes with the heaters turned on, I noticed they hadn't gotten warm. Once we'd sat in the car after pulling out, they obviously got warm. I suspect there's some logic connected to having weight in the seat that turns the heaters on.

I’m glad that you confirmed my suspicions. I do not ever prestart any cars inside the garage for obvious reasons. My RDX is usually parked outside since other “babies “ park inside . So in short, you have to suffer the few minutes of biting cold no matter what. I guess you can’t complain much, the RDX has been real good for us in the last 3 and half years we owned it.
