2016 RDX rough ride
I went over a small bump yesterday and it jostled everyone in the car. How can I distinguish between a problem and it being normal for the auto? Car has 6500 miles. Thanks.

Is this the first time in 6500 miles? That would be an indicator of whether you feel it's a rough riding car. For me it's a pretty decent ride. Not too harsh. Not too soft...

I pressed the gas pedal and the engine revved higher as I pressed it deeper the other day. Lol with all due respect OP, you need to clarify. Furthermore it sounds normal to me, did you not test drive before purchasing and go for a long drive over a variety of surfaces?
How big was the bump, how fast were you going, any weird sounds? I'm confused what the issue is.

I always wince and grimace when ever I go over bumpy conditions.
like..."OoooOoOh that wasn't good. "
I can handle it, because I'm expecting it..cuz i'm driving... I do it for my passengers...LOL
*ugly face and braces for impact*
"whats wrong?"
*bump ba-bump ba-bump*
train tracks...that's what's wrong

Oh, sorry, got off topic. Going over bumps. Yeah, it's give and take. The RDX suspension I think is more sporty than others in it's class hence, yeah, bumps will be a little more pronounced. OK with me. One thing that drives me nuts is a car/vehicle that rides too soft. I'm not that old yet! Lol.

I also have a 2016 RDX with almost exactly the same mileage, about 6500. To be honest I was a bit skeptical that the ride would end up being too soft for my taste. Not so. It seems to be a perfect balance of quality comfortable ride without being too mushy and handles quite sporty IMO when needed. This is all coming from a 2008 RDX that basically handled and road like it was on rails. I think the ride/drive is near perfect in the 2016. Only thing that would make it better is bring back the SH-AWD.

Your point is right on about the SUV. The RDX is an SUV and will ride like a truck. If he wants a smooth ride he should look at a crossover (nice name for what used to be a station wagon).
#15
did he hit a bucked expansion joint? those make even the most subdued daily driver feel it
#16
That is a long way of telling you that the RDX is a crossover SUV and is not a SUV-truck. If that makes sense lol. Furthermore the RDX SHOULD have a soft ride because it rolls like all hell and is mushy as hell as well. So kind of surprised to read people's reaponses on it being firm. What is the point of a hard ride and sloppy handling?

Oh, OK.
The RDX ride suffers due to the short wheelbase. I find it jouncy around town but great on the highway. I once test drove a used Nissan Pathfinder, now THAT thing rode and handled like a truck.

You must be talking about a 2WD Tacoma. I owned one of those generation Tacoma 4X4s for 14 years (oh jeez do I miss it too!). That ride was more brutal than my current 2008 RDX, which is much firmer than the 2016 RDX. Those Tacomas had a solid, leaf-sprung axle in the rear, big ass coils in the front, larger all-terrain tires and built to take anything you cared to run over. I hesitate to call the ride comparable to a 2016 RDX though. At least to my keister anyway.

2wd 4 cyl Tacoma. And yes, I agree that the rough/jittery ride in the RDX is most likely a result of the short wheel base and perhaps in part because of the Michelin tires. (Michelins - I have only driven a few times in the rain and no problems, but I once had a new accord with Michelins and it hydroplaned so badly with the Michelins that I replaced them with less than 10k miles on them. I also thought those Michelins may have been made out of wood.) I also have a friend with a new F-150 quadcab and it rides VERY smoothly.

My 2000 4WD Taco was the regular cab. High off the ground, big tires and a short wheel base. Soooo scary coming north over the Golden Gate Bridge - a big expansion joint on a fast curve just as you get off the bridge. That whole truck would seem to pop off the ground. I'd hold onto the steering wheel for dear life with the massive bump-steer when the wheels hit the pavement. The 08 RDX takes it like a champ. No more holding my breath or anything else for that matter

Comfy, you nailed it. Value for the money, handling, and on and on. This is our second RDX, by choice after studying the marketplace. With the firm ride you know exactly what the car is doing, no guessing. Yesterday the car proved itself beyond reasonable doubt in chancy conditions. We drove about 200 miles in heavy rain with severe crosswinds - the RDX was so confidence inspiring. We did note that as conditions got worse the number of trucks on the road dwindled to zero - too many get blown over these days. I'll take my hard ride any day over suppleness in this price range.

I only took mine (2013 RDX FWD) to 100 mph once and it felt so dangerous and all over the place (with no cross winds) that I told myself "never again". When I read this I am kinda shocked, ... maybe it was my RDX. I do not intend to make comparisons but with my current vehicle I could, from a confidence standpoint, drive at 100 or even 120 all day long and that thing feels like on rails. I once drove the older generation MDX (model 2012 I guess) and pushed it in the highway and it drove pretty good; I thought that this was a good vehicle; the new gen MDX ... is a big MEH for me

Guys , if you want to drive at 120-125 on public roads, be my guest. Just let us know where do you intend to drive geographically and we will avoid that region. .

Scary was my '66 Corvair Corsa back in the day, before I put on a proper air dam. I got 'er over 100 but the front end started to lift. Not cool. The RDX? Not scary.
