It looks like the tape is needlessly thick along the bottom edge. I wonder if there is a DRL strip along the bottom? It almost looks like the outline of the new headlights have been kept almost identical to the old headlights.
I'm sure you saw the picture of the RDX with the white cover over it with the LED DRL strip. That pretty much confirms it (and the grille sort of seems to be like the one on the new ILX, again that would make total sense)

Where are we all finding these pics (who on ig?) So glad to have them, I'm really excited for this refresh. They did a fantastic job imo on the ILX, and seems like the RDX will follow. Weird, the ILX and RDX are always on the same design cycle! When they both first came out, they had many similar interior trim bits (think climate controls and all radio/navi controls, also seats were kind of similar). Now, the ILX and RDX are both the first to get the new DRL LED strip and grille.

I'm not a fan of the Jewel Lights on all the models. It's a great design... something that no one else has, but it's use on every Acura model lessens its appeal. You'll now be mistaking every MDX for an RDX and every ILX for an RLX (poor RLX owners)

Pretty sure they saw this coming, so they gave the RLX two rows of LED's to differentiate it

It also fits into the theme of flagships having larger headlights than their smaller brethren

Though I agree that eventually we won't be able to tell any of the other models apart at night

Kind of like what BMW, Mercedes, Lexus and Audi have all done or doing...

Just better brand identity. You'll know it's an Acura. Just like I know an Audi or a BMW just from the lights. And they are different enough. The MDX/TLX have the DRLs as part of the main assembly of lights and the ILX/RDX will have the sold bar of lights below the main assembly.

Yeah, I really don't like those wheels either.

Those are clearly both production wheels. So, are those black ones for the Advance model? Or is it like the ILX, where you've got non-painted wheels for the non-sport trims, and a black/silver wheel on a sport trim? I highly doubt there would be any sport trim, but I don't think anyone saw it coming on the ILX, so....

I wonder what the cutouts above the rear reflectors are?

Go look at 2016 ILX and you will see that those cutouts are identical to the front and back of the ILX --black plastic fake air vent or something along there

RAndomRon....those two pics are different sets of wheels no?! The silver one (bottom pic) are the exact same as the ILX! Surely they aren't that dumb?!?!

This might be the RDX with Advance package. Note what appears to be headlight washers and parking sensors. I don't recall the USDM MDX having headlight washers even with the Advance package. Perhaps this is a Canadian RDX?

Those rims though.. ugh!

Cheers,
Elmer

I'm pretty sure the silver wheels (probably base) are different from the ILX ones. The spokes on this RDX look more similar than the spokes do on the ILX do, if that makes any sense.

I'm not sure who is designing Acura rims but they really (generally) suck. They have to put wheels on the car, and they are very visible, so why try so hard to make them ugly?? I just don't get it. Do they even ask anyone what they think of these wheels before they put them in production?

Canadian, etc. markets get washers. Otherwise, that one in the photo is just an Advance package as shown by the parking sensors.

Nothing confirmed, but would venture to say the curved spoke silver wheels are the standard RDX 18" variety and the machined/black combo ones are the Advance wheels.

Canadian market RDX does not have headlight washers, but the Chinese market does.

I would pay zero attention to the rims. If they go to the bother of trying to camoflage the prototype do you really think they would put the production rims on it?

It's quite common to see camouflaged Acura / Honda test vehicles running around using production rims albeit usually painted in black so I'm willing to bet that we are looking at the final product.

Has anyone seen any announcement by Honda or Acura about a live stream for the unveiling?

Does not look to be one, it is usually up on youtube by now. They did not do a live stream of the ILX refresh either

Will the specs and pictures of the 2016 RDX be on the acura website or Edmunds... the same day?
It's nice to know when the unveil is, but there's no point to it if they don't specify the specs in details...

The link below says it's carrying the unveil, but nothing live right now. Maybe they'll have a recording.

From TFLCar:

Available at Acura dealerships nationwide this Spring, the 2016 Acura RDX receives Jewel Eye™ LED projector headlamps and LED taillights, a new, more powerful 3.5-liter i-VTEC® V-6 engine, an expanded list of AcuraWatch™ safety and driver-assistive technologies, and new luxury features and technologies, including a new line-topping RDX with Advance Package.

The 2016 Acura RDX is powered by a new 3.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) cylinder deactivation technology. With 279 HP and 252 lb-ft of torque, the increases are small, but still noteworthy.

Variable Cylinder Management™ allows for deactivation of two of the engine’s six cylinders under light engine loads, helping the 2016 Acura RDX increase its highway EPA fuel-economy ratings by 1 mpg, to 19/28 MPG for AWD models and 20/29 MPG for FWD models (city/highway). Refinement is furthered with new rear engine mounts, updates to the steering control system and increased suspension mount stiffness.

Additionally, the RDX’s all-wheel-drive system – AWD with Intelligent Control – has been tuned for greater rear torque bias to further enhance dynamic stability and all-weather capability.

A new Advance Package for the 2016 Acura RDX adds rain-sensing wipers, front fog lights, Bi-Directional Keyless remote engine start, front and rear parking sensors, ventilated front seats, an auto-dimming driver’s side mirror, and AcuraWatch™ advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies.

All RDX models with AcuraWatch™ also get a new 4.2-inch full-color TFT Multi-Information Display with expanded, customizable information readouts such as average vehicle speed, fuel economy, fuel range, tire pressure monitoring system (TMPS) and turn-by-turn navigation.

While offered as standard equipment on the new Advance Package, all RDX models can now be equipped with AcuraWatch™, which includes Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System™ and Lane Keeping Assist, along with a standard Multi-View Rear Camera and Expanded View driver’s side mirror. AcuraWatch™ uses sensor fusion technology, which incorporates a millimeter wave radar system and a windshield-mounted monocular camera, and includes the ability to sense and respond to road hazards including a pedestrian detected in the roadway.

Looks like it's got ventilated seats! The old heated seats button has been replaced by two different buttons.

"The RDX with Technology Package adds a new 8-way adjustable power passenger's front seat"

!!!!

Otherwise, this looks to be more of a traditional Honda/Acura MMC and less of a full blast makeover than the ILX (for good reason, why mess up a good thing?)

No suprises. Everything it needed to catch up to the competition. Acura still positioning for the luxury value leader.

I am a little disappointed with the power train upgrade. The torque is still lower than the Lexus NX, BMW X3 28 engine, Audi Q5, and Linclon MKC 2.0. They should have tuned the engine for 260 torque. Yes 252 torque is only 3% lower but when gas mileage is about the same between all these models some will opt for the others.

True, the torque is a bit low, but for most people having a V6 vs a rougher 4-cyl turbo is enough. On top of that it makes a lot more horsepower, so it's definitely competitive.

i've been trying to like the Jewel Eye LED's ... I really have. But the look just doesn't work for me. They look especially awkward on the RDX. Throw in the other changes, and I think the styling updates are a collective step backwards. The Advance Package on the other hand is not, and it's good to see options that should have been available in the first place. Sadly, no SH-AWD option remains a deal-breaker for me.

I think the updates look good. Looking forward to see this in person. Sad it doesn't have SH-AWD but it is just a MMC after all. Hopefully the FMC will bring it back.

also, I don't think Acura is offering a full array of colors like the competition. Yes Audi and BMW charge extra for a blue or some other colors but it is nice to have a choice.

The Chicago show car is blue. Hopefully that's a production color. More options outside of the white-to-black color scale would be welcome as well.

I think I like these wheels better the the ones on the grey advance model. Probably dealer accessory wheels as is the running board.

Overall, I think the cosmetic improvements and the features added (like passenger adjustable seat and ventilated seats) are great. I think the RDX is a step in the right direction with again, the exception with the wheels.

I would like to see the team of the people who develop these horrible designs...The TLX, the ILX, the MDX, the RDX...GOD! The old ILX had decent wheels as with the TL but recently, they are going backward. Honda as better luck in this department....not sure why. Initially, it appeared the wheel looked good but it was just the viewing angle....

I bet neither of these wheels are the actual factory wheel. Probably both dealer added. We did not see the ILX or TLX wheels until first drives came out.
