Unhappy 2015 RDX brake pad wear out

Hi,
I recently bought (Feb 2018) a precertified 2015 RDX tech with 42k miles on it. With 5k miles on it now I went for A1 servicing. The dealer came back to me with issues with my battery and rear brake pad. The battery was replaced as the car is still under bumper to bumper powertrain warranty. The dealer says that brake pad is almost worn out and will need to be changed along with brake fluid. Gave me a quote of around $500
I contacted the dealer whom i had bought the vehicle and the service person told me that during certification the rear and front brake pad was recorded at 7mm thickness. Certified says that the brakes must be 5mm or greater.
I am just wondering that will brake pads wear out from 7mm to 'almost' out in a matter of just 5 months (5k miles) and what are my options to get this replaced. And to make matter worst, my rear brake light just got out yesterday (
Any input will be appreciated.

These cars are notorously hard on brakes. Be thankful the rotors are okay.

Still, this seems to be too early since it was recorded at 7mm 6 months ago. Also, is this covered in the initial pre-certified car warranty? Though I couldn't find anything in their handbook
It's just sad having shell out so much money on a 3-year-old car just because it is precertified and now issues are coming up.

I would recommend you get another opinion on your brakes. My gut feel is that you may be taken advantage of.

I went over 30k miles on my '16 RDX in June. I drained and filled the transmission fluid and replaced the air filter and cabin filter - all very easily done at home. My battery went dead right at the 3 year point so I had a new one put in (Acura put a 610 CCA in, but I replaced it with a 750 CCA at Walmart). I just replaced my tires at 32k and my brake pads showed hardly any wear. As for flushing the brake fluid - that gets done when you have your brake pads replaced. I have never flushed my brakes and have never had an issue (started driving in 1973). I had a 2000 accord and my neighbors now own it. At 125k they put new brakes (replacing the original brakes) on it and merely replaced the fluid that was flushed out while bleeding the brakes. They now have about 175k miles on it and haven't had any brake issues.

Brake pads ARE consumables and not usually (if ever) covered under the bumper-to-bumper warranties, but if what the original poster states is accurate I believe he is being taken advantage of and would be well served to get another opinion.
