is 2014 RDX a girl's car?

I am a 33-year old male shopping for a car. I currently have a Hyundai Santa Fe, but the Acura RDX + Tech seems like an appealing vehicle, since it has almost all of the features I want for a reasonable price. However, my brother keeps telling me that it's a girl's car, that women will consider my car "cute," and so on.

I also like the MDX, but I don't need a third row, I don't want to spend 50k, and I have a small garage so I don't need a bigger car.

Is the RDX a chick's car?

What a silly question and what a silly brother. The answer is yes only if a chick owns it. Otherwise it is a dude's car.

I would consider an RDX any day of the week. We have an MDX but for the reasons you stated, we would consider the RDX next time we are in the market.
Not sure if it matters, but my wife drives it only because I drive a TLS.

Several people seem to say that the RDX is a guy's car, "but my wife drives it." This article also concerns me

http://jessicagottlieb.com/2013/03/a...d-tech-review/

"The 2013 Acura RDX is the Mommiest Mom Car that ever Mommed…"

If I bought it, would it be advisable to install some more-aggressive looking wheels? Also, could someone recommend aggressive-looking wheels that might look good on the RDX?

I've never heard of Jessica Gottlieb but I'm sure the RDX will appeal to lots of different demographics for different reasons.

i would not consider the RDX "cute". any car described as cute...i won't own. i've seen plenty of guys and gals driving an RDX. probably the same number driving an MDX.

make it your own with tint, LEDs, rims if you want...

my TL is lightly modded and meticulously clean. most wouldn't think a girl drives it esp with a 6MT.

I could see the argument. IMO it's not as "cool" as the other Acura cars like the TL, TSX, MDX etc. We have a 2013 non-tech that is my wife's car. That being said, my car is a big truck, 2011 Ram 2500 diesel, but I still like driving her RDX. Much more refined, faster, and I can't take corners in the Dodge like I can in the RDX!

Just get the Black on Black RDX and you will be fine. Wheels and trim really pop and very masculine - elegant.

frankly, all car based CUVs are more or less a girly car. but i will say this though, RDX is more manly than Lexus RX that's for sure.

Well...I don't know if I'd call it a "Girl's Car", but I do refer to it as my "Dadmobile". But I'm also a nurse, so I'm not terribly worried about being identified as feminine! Pretty much the bossest car I've ever owned, that's for sure!

I laughed when he said he currently drives a Sante Fe.
its like going from one girls car to another!

just giving you a hard time, OP.
like others have said, your man card does not get revoked because of the vehicle you drive.

The other day I saw a girl driving a Mustang GT. What do you all think, should I sell mine?
I see women riding Harley Davidson big twins almost on a daily basis. Maybe I should sell mine and buy a Suzuki.
What exactly is a girls car?

I think it was written in jest, but I bet she doesn't know the difference between a caliper and a crankshaft. Oh yah...........get a Dodge Durango or a Chevy Suburban........great quality cars.......be a macho man......put a Harley Davidson sticker in the rear window.

Look at the bright side.........you can be a "chick magnet" with the RDX.

Want to see more aggressive wheels? Go on www.tirerack.com and you will be able to see all kinds of wheels on the car (even change the color of the car). The interactive display will even let you change wheel diameter sizes on the screen.

Now go grab yourself a Budweiser, and don't take any crap from that Jessica bimbo.

I think I agree with two posts I saw above:
- Any CUV can be foreseen as a girls car
- The RX is the most "girls car" among luxury CUVs out there

I hail from Texas so over here anything short of a 3/4 ton pickup and above can be seen as less masculine.

Having just read the review, I'd actually argue that the only thing girly in the review is that first sentence, other than that it is fairly practical and balanced. Now regarding my experience with my RDX (black on black) - I in no way think of it as a girl's car like some, no, actually most crossovers but rather a nice looking, well designed and manufactured vehicle. It kind of seems to be good looking and refined enough to appeal to girls/moms while still being aggressive enough for men. Overall a nice balance. FYI, I used to drive a 2003 Toyota 4Runner.

What's interesting is that when I see the real mom/grandmom types driving RDX's I think WTH is she doing in that thing? Those types should be driving the Lexus RX350, Audi Q5, Honda CRV, Toyota Highlander or something else.

Most any convertible - chick car.
Any Mercedes Kompressore - chick car.
Any V6 Mustang convertible - DEFINITE chick car.
Mazda 3 - chick car.
New VW bug - chick car.
Jeep Liberty - chick car.
Pontiac Sunfire -chick car.
Pontica G6 -chick car.
Anything with "cabriolet" in it's name - chick car.

And the list goes on, but this is a good starting point.

Real men drive whatever they want. Those that are worried about a vehicle being a "chick car" are insecure in their manhood and usually end up buying a Harley to make up for it but the real women know the guy driving the "chick car" has the biggest unit or is gay and sometimes they will try to find out which one you are. Do not disappoint them by buying a "chick car" if you have a small unit. Let them know who you really are by going right to the Harley.

Pearls of wisdom by someone who seems to know a lot about small units.

Cars don't have a gender. Some are marketed to males and some to females. That being said not everyone falls into the target. Manufacturers can also fail to target who prefers the car. Take the prior gen RDX.

I really hate this argument. If you are concerned about this then you are buying cars for the wrong reason. More women have a minivan. Why? Because it's popular among them since a large percentage of women in the household are the ones carting kids around during the day. The ads also reflect this as manufacturers target them.

If you want to get a car that falls into the "male" target then buy a truck, supercar etc. But that's a real stupid reason to buy anything and you are falling right into the marketing machine.

Santa Fe Sport

For those commenting about my Santa Fe Sport-- I agree that my current car has some of the same feminine problems as the RDX. That is, it's a crossover SUV. However, I feel that it also has a little bit of a rugged body style:

http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/20...25/micra10.jpg

The RDX, by contrast, looks a little bit more "vaginal," for lack of a better word. I might be influenced by the fact that when I went to the dealership, the RDX that I test drove was sitting right next to an MDX. The MDX and RDX, looked at together, kinda seemed like a "his and hers" matching set.

I would go with the MDX, but the base version doesn't have voice recognition for audio controls, and to get that, I have to go with a whole 'nother package with a bunch of things I don't want. (Otherwise, I really like the MDX base version.) Also, I'm not a car guy, but I suspect that if I just bought the base MDX and wanted to add voice recognition for audio, it would cost lots of green.

why I'm ditching Hyundai for Acura, possibly

I have had lots of problems with my 2013 Santa Fe Sport, and I had a lemon law hearing against Hyundai. I won the hearing, and now Hyundai must buy the car back from me.

It will take a couple weeks for the transaction to be done, after which I must buy a new car. I thought maybe I would go for a higher quality car, like an Acura RDX, because I have found that I enjoy a nice ride. I have had only crappy hand-me-down cars in the past, and the 2013 SFS (purchased 6 months) was the closest thing I had to a nice car. Until it started causing problems, I really enjoyed the comfort & smooth ride. I thus want to get another car with similar features.

My perhaps (naive) belief is that Acura will be even nicer, given the brand name.

Thank you for not beating around the bush this time by disguising your real problems with some fake made up story.

Have you been test driving?
what is your budget?
get your butt into the dealer to see how you like the RDX!
