Wow, $2800 for a broken supercharger......pics and detail

Thought I'll share this with you guys too. I'm a member over @ V6P.net

Well I bought my supercharger from toocoolcord19 (from V6P.net). What I thought I was getting is a used working supercharger. But what I got is a supercharger that snapped in half. I'm surprised how it's even broken considering how thick the metal is. I don't even know where to begin trying to figure out what happened. I tried to contact Frank (toocoolcord19) but he's not answering his phone. Any suggestions on what I should do? I don't want to think that Frank shipped it out in this condition. I'm going to do a claim with UPS and or Paypal before I try to deal with this personally.

Here's my thread over on V6P.net if anyone is interested what other people have said: http://www.v6performance.net/forums/...ad.php?t=56490 . I hope in the end everything works out and I get what I paid for. I contacted UPS already and they said I should be covered.....how much, I dont know yet. A member on V6P.net said it could cost $500+ to have Comptech repair this. I really don't want to spend any money fixing this because I didn't pay $2800 for a broken supercharger.

You never answered the question, was it insured for $2800? I really hope it was.

Well when I talked to UPS they said I should be covered cause the seller did declare a value. I really don't know exactly what's going on.....it's been a really long day.

Jokes aside... Damn bro feel your pain... You can contact paypal and state the condition declared was not the same when I received it. Make them aware immediately so they can't say why didn't you notify us immediately... Best of luck...

how well was it packed and was there any sign of damage to the outside of the box upon arrival? if so i would suspect the dude of being shady-especially cause he is not picking up the phone

who paid the shipping, cause if you did you would have been responsible for the value declaration-right?

Dam. that's a shame. I hope you get your $$ back.
Is there any appearance of abrasion damage on the periphery (sic) of the blower unit or the pulley end of the blower shaft?? It looks to me like this thing may have been dropped or something during removal??

if UPS doesn't cover it, i'd send it to Comptech to get repaired. suck that you have to go through it, but atleast you'll eventually have it working.

I feel for ya. best of luck

Here are the pictures of the box I received everything in. Looks like it was dropped but I'm still not sure how that part would just snap like that.

And lastly.....

Just the bubble wrap you see underneath the S/C in the pics above and those little styrofoam bubbles (but not a lot). Very poorly wrapped IMO, especially for something that's worth so much.

So in a way, it's the seller's fault for not doing a good wrapping job. I do admit UPS doesn't take care of their packages, I've had damaged products come from them in the pass.

I may not be looking at this right but that box does not look like something hit it hard enough for the shaft to snap like that. The second thing is that it was not packaged good at all (half-assed wrapping and oil leaking out through the box). The seller didn't take the time to really clean out the item before he packaged it. But the third thing that really pisses me off is that the seller cannot be contacted. I assume that he was easy to contact before the sale right? But all of the sudden he can't be found? I don't know.......

If all that shit was packed in that tiny box along with the IceBox parts, I can see how it might have gotten damaged.
That’s way too much stuff in there and not enough cushioning material.

did the box have the oil leak mark on it when it arrived? if so, then it most probably broke in transit. The seller could have sent it broken, because i dont see any way the box could have taken a beating and still look OK.
Here are the steps to take to avoid any money out of pocket:
First, contact paypal or whoever else you paid with.
Second, contact comptech, send them pics, and ask to see EXACTLY how much it will cost to fix. This info will be useful throughout the process.
Third, continue to contact seller through email, phone, etc.., if you can not get a hold of him or you do talk to the individual but they are unwilling to cooperate with UPS to get the money back, then proceed to step 4.
Fourth and final, get a hold of your credit card and let them know about the situation. The key here is to let everyone know whats going on so that you put your input onto records from the getgo.
DONT FORGET: Even if UPS cooperates and they reimburse the entire value, the seller gets the money, not you. He is the one who shipped it, and paid for it, so he is entitled to all money collected. Given that he is unreliable for contacting, you might still get screwed.
Also, your CC company usually do not put a hold on payment of something just based on the fact that its broken, something missing, etc.. They only do it when you dont receive the package and the seller has to prove the shipment.
Paypal will also do nothing for you unless the item was never received. These things are important and you deserve to get them resolved.
Did you really just open the box and thats what you saw? Either way, dont worry too much, in the end if you take all the necessary steps, you can break even on this. Good luck!

1. Tried Paypal, they can't do anything cause the package is already received.
2. I contacted UPS.....the claim is in process
3. I contacted my CC company and have filed a claim with them also
4. I told the seller to contact UPS to let them know the situation also.

I've submitted all the pics I've shown you to both companies I filed a claim with.

Ok so heres what i'm seeing... that flange that is by the area where the shaft snaped is not suposed to still be on the charger when you take the s/c off of the car... and yea its prob from shipping because that flange is no joke and its very strong so im guessing that the flange hit the ground with poor handeling which made the shaft snap... i actually know that the shaft can be removed from the charger so it can prob be replaced for something reasonable.

Damage to the box doesn't look bad enough to break the jack shaft housing to me. Also, I was expecting a boatload more oil than that. I think the SC has way more oil in it than what was leaked in the box. I thought all the parts would have been covered in oil if it was broken in shipment.

My first impression is that the SC was damaged prior to shipment.

What leads you to believe damaged in transit??? SC has oil sealed in it. If damaged in transit, where's the oil?

Is Steve still around? Hopefully he can give me an esitmate of how much it would cost to fix it or maybe even tell me how bad it's damaged.

I've already sent Comptech the pics I've shown you guys. They are slow with their emails sometimes. Hopefully tomorrow all the companies will get back to me. I filed all the claims and faxed all the paperwork on Friday. I guess they're closed over the weekend.

Nope, no calls or anything from the seller. No replies to my emails or PMs also. Anyone located in Roselle, Illinois? Maybe you can see what's going on?

He either doesn't care or he has something to hide.

If a UPS employee did not package the items themselves at a UPS store or shipping center you will NOT get back your money. Period. It is in the fine print when the shipper signs their reciept. I got screwed last year when UPS played soccer with my freshly powdercoated brakes (done by Dave). They said that even though the extra insurance was purchased, due to the fact that they did not package the item themselves using their materials that insurance only covers loss not damages.

Do not deal with Comptech via email. They get so many emails from little kids wondering about how many horsepower the Comptech sticker they got with their intake adds that IMO they hardly check it and/or respond to it.

Call them and speak to Shad or Nate and they'll give you an idea on what you're looking at.

IMO you'll need a new flange, new shaft (both the inner shaft and the shaft that actually cracked), new oil, and all new bearings. Although the spline doesn't look damaged remember once that thing is installed and you take it to redline you're spinning that thing at over 14,000 rpm. I wouldn't take any chances. It took one hell of a beating to snap that like it did. That metal is about 3/8" thick

Steve - I don't consider this "Soaked in oil"

Not sure of the quantity but I'm pretty sure that the SC houses more oil than that.

In this picture, I would have expected the packing peanuts to be coated in oil also:

I see ATF residue in some pictures but not enough SC oil to convince me that it was damaged in transit.
