Who else got their water pump / tensioner replaced ?
I brought mine in for that TSB I heard about on here (thanks whoever it was though I forgot now). The replaced them both. Brand new water pump and timing belt tensioner (I think it was the tensioner).
Anybody else get theirs done?

Nope...... It's a RECALL
Released September 19, 2003
Product Update: Timing Belt Auto-Tensioner
Safety Recall: V6 Engine Water Pump Recall
Background
Product Update: The timing belt tensioner is filled with
oil to dampen oscillation. Due to a manufacturing
problem, the tensioner oil can leak. If enough oil is lost,
the timing belt loosens and causes engine noise.
Safety Recall: All vehicles not yet repaired under
service bulletin 02-022, Safety Recall: V6 Engine Water
Pump, are also eligible for this product update. They
are identified on a separate campaign responsibility
report. Effective immediately, discontinue the use of
service bulletin 02-022, and use the repair and
warranty information in this service bulletin instead.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
Timing Belt Auto-Tensioner Product Update:
2002 3.2TL: From VIN 19UUA5...2A051141 thru end of production
2003 3.2TL: From VIN 19UUA5...3A000001 thru 19UUA5...3A043888

Some vehicles affected by this product update are still in dealer inventory. These vehicles must be repaired before they are sold or leased.

VIN 2HNYD1...2H539162
VIN 2HNYD1...2H539327
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
All owners of affected vehicles will be mailed a
notification of this product update. Customers will
receive one of two notifications, based on whether the
vehicle was already repaired according to service
bulletin 02-022. Examples of the customer notifications
are at the end of this service bulletin.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
One of two corrective actions is appropriate, based on
whether the vehicle is affected by the water pump recall
and, if so, if the recall has been done.
1. If the vehicle is affected by the recall and the repair
has not been done, inspect the casting die number
on the water pump housing. If the casting die
number is “9,” replace the water pump, the timing
belt, and the timing belt auto-tensioner.
2. If the vehicle is not affected by the recall or it was
already repaired, replace the timing belt autotensioner.

Kinda funny, but I don't remember if I got notice on that so-called Water pump recall?....hmmmm.... thats because it was a TSB also...

The dealership I bought my car from kinda sucks
I've got 14K miles on my CLS, so I guess I'll have the 15K miles maint. done and have 'em do the tensioner (my VIN isn't affected by the waterpump recall).
Hafta have the sunroof rattle and a couple of other things looked at too.

I never got a letter from Acura for my '03 CLS 6sp. However, I just picked my car up from the dealership today for the 7500 mi. service and they did the Timing Belt Auto-Tensioner fix. They also adjusted my valves which were a little on the noisy side.
BTW- also got konis and CT exhaust and strutbar. Now I've got most everything: CT intake/headers/exhaust/strutbar/springs/sways and konis.
I have to say, the konis are so much better than the stock shocks with the CT springs. Ride quality is not as bumpy on rough road surfaces - a little more sure-footed. The exhaust really has a nice note - but does have that droning sound at around 2500 rpm.

Actually the timing belt tensioner is a product update. But, Acura is sending letters to the affected vin ranges. Not everyone has got theirs. I still have customers coming in that have no idea about this existing. But according to my dpsm, it is an update that is required on the vehicles affected. So, whoever is being told by their delaer that it is their discretion, is being lied to. It is posted and sent out for a reason. So if they play dumb, enlighten them a little and make them do it if your car is affected. Hell, it's money for us (advisors) and convenience for you. And my techs love it. It's gravy for them.

Cool, Roman,, thanks for the info... They told me they check to see if the tensioner is leaking oil, if it is they will change it... So I dunno ... I will make my appt. on Monday...
How long does it take your techs to perform the swap?

dropped my car off at 7:30 ... they told me it would take all day ... I told them I'd be back at 2pm to pick up my car ... had to wait an addit 30 minutes (again, only expected the auto tensioner but very pleased to find out that everything was swapped out) ... only unknown is when they actually started the work. never received any letter from Acura ... dealer knew I knew what I was talking about when I made my initial inquiry, and they went far beyond what I expected them to do .... what can I say?????

It actually takes my guys about an hour to replace it and that's only because they have to let the engien cool off. It gets a little hot around that tensioner. But once it's cool, takes them only about 30 minutes or so.

water pump
Keep this in mind about the w.p. It only gets replaced if it is in the vin range. If not, they can't replace it. If your dealer does, they get charged back for the repair. Just happened to us for about fifteen of them. TSB/Recall is a little vague in its writing concerning the w.p.

they also have to look at this number on the water pump ... the number starts with a 9 or something. Also , they have to check the color of the fluid and it has to be black for them to replace it.

the number means nothing. They said to only do it if the vin on the car falls into the vin range that has been recalled. That's why we got hit on the one's we did that were outside the range. Tell your dealer to becareful. They are very strict on that repair.

well, if you read my post, you'd see that my dealer went solely based on the number 9 being on the casing of the water pump, as I was fully aware that my car fell outside the vin range for the pump/belt replacement. am stopping by Wednesday for another purpose ... will play dumb and ask them since they had intended to inform Acura about finding a water pump with the "9" on it which fell outside the vin range.

Shitty ass rental
Took my car (to Ed Voyles - Atlanta) yesterday. Dropped it off for the t-belt tensioner and to quiet the clutch from squeaking/creaking (some suggesting the clutch fork needed oiling).
Anyhow, had to leave it for the day - should be done tomorrow. They gave me a Mitsubishi Lancer loaner from Enterprise. No offense to anyone that might have one, but what a piece o' shit. Going from a '03 CL-S 6M to this... ugh! I had really hoped for a RSX or TSX loaner... oh well.

Same here. But now they're talking about not charging us because the tsb is so vague. I'm one getting hit. Luckily it's only one. My techs working on my cars were bright enough to actually read the damn thing.

One interesting thing; as I was standing there one of their best technicians (Pete) called over and said "Hey Steve" I replied back and he went on to ask me how the supercharger was going. I replied, etc. But what struck me was that I have only spoken to Pete once years ago but he remembered by name and knew I had the blower. Needless to say I was impressed with their attention and recollection of customers.
