Where is the thermostat and how do i get to it

number 5 is the thermostat. its on the right side 5" below the throttle body. #7 is the thermostat housing. Its held on with two bolts. remove those and there is your thermostat.

remove the battery
remove intake
take socket wrench and undo housing
replace thermostat
you will need extra coolant

way ahead of you with the more coolant but do i really have to drain the radiator cuz the nob wont turn at all someone told me i can just put the pan under the bottom hose by the thermostat

lol quick fix my A.

this bloody thing is a chore to get to for the 01-03 Type S bodies.

you have to remove the intake AND VSA/Throttle body parts, plus the battery, and only then is there barely enough room to get to the bolts to the thermostat housing.

from here it's annoying because the bolt closer to the passenger/driver side needs an extension, and there's a bolt/bracket for the vsa gizmo that impedes 180 degree angle.

got it done, but took a couple of hours. i would only recommend this job if you've had experience with removing a throttle body before.

just my own two cents. teh battery tip was pro though, @phee, so thanks for that.
