What are side effects of regular unleaded gas?
I let my girlfriend borrow my car and she accidentally filled it up with regular unleaded...but it ran fine. Does anyone know if there are any disadvantages to running that over super?

Decreased performance. When DI cars sense any sign of pinging, ignition timing is retarded until it goes away. Regular unleaded is generally less premium than Premium (duh ), which is to say it won't have as many fuel system and injector-cleaning additives as Premium. But one tank shouldn't matter.

I think it was Car & Driver that did a really good article on this a few months back. They put 87 in cars that required 93 and vice versa. They found that:
-The performance of premium cars running on regular was slightly decreased at the high end (I think they used a BMW 3 Series)
-Putting 93 in a car that does not require it is a complete waste.
Nothing we didn't already know, but they have the data to prove it all. It's worth looking up if you are really interested in how it affects cars.

I strictly use premium unleaded. About the only time I might use regular unleaded is if I were about to run empty and there was no premium available. Once, I tried regular unleaded. Couldn't tell the difference during normal driving; however, when I really drove the car aggressively (like I normally do), the results were noticeable.

It used to be that lower octane gas would leave more deposits on the carb, don,t how the injectors react long term. The performance issue is another thing that depends on how you drive. Better to put higher octane always if there is a question unless you drive like a grandma.

Shell bought Texaco and will rebrand all Texaco stations to Shell.
Exxon bouth Mobil. So far they will be keeping both brands.
All gas companies trade gasoline with each other and it is shipped though the same pipeline. The only thing that makes them different is the additive.
BP/Amoco in some parts of the country sell Crystal Clear Amoco which is not traded with anyone else and is refined an extra step to make it clear.
